Why is that? I want Sabo to be currently stronger then luffy while luffy surpasses him as the story goes on, that would be the best that could happen.

Yeah I thought the same when I watched this scene. I hope Luffy meets up with Sabo again, and meets his father as well. Maybe Sabo saves him sometime in the New World.

Ofcourse he´s gonna have difficulties in the new world, he´s probably about as strong as Marco now.

when i saw that manga cover which include grown up sabo ace and luffy, am certain that sabo is alive, i mean Oda never draw random cover page LOL maybe in another manga the cover mean nothing but in OP its the part of the manga
