Any android device over ios device, obligate jailbreaking is required in apple devices which is a pain and without it Apple basically controls what you run on your phone.

In android there is no obligatory need to root.

Also new iphone 6 looks meh. Even the apple's watch is comparable to many out there, Apple are seriously missing the vision of Steve Jobs.

Android is much better operating system than iOS imo. I was expecting more from iOS 8 but they haven't really done much with it (I have a developer account so i've had the beta for a while now). It still has a simplicity aspect to it which is nice but nothing new. In terms of raw capability, power, customizability and features android has the edge.

I would go with S5 over the iphone 6 (although the phone itself seems pretty good, the operating system isn't that good). But if you want a simple interface, a high quality phone (not plastic) and with android's power, HTC One M8 is the way to go.

Before making any decision though, wait till iphone 6 releases and reviews are available.

THe Galaxy S5 and the iPhone are both complete and utter sh!t. They are severely overhyped and over-advertised. Truthfully, they are the "cool" thing to get because people are sheep.

Want a real phone? Go with the HTC One. I personally recommend the first generation One, but the second one (the new one) is also a damn great phone. Know why HTC is such an amazing company? Because they don't have to advertise their top tier products; true enthusiast will seek THEM out.
