Mainly Kanji is a Japanese form of letters or writing more than just the name of elements in the text of Naruto. It give meaning and power behind the sealing in which you perform on the scrolls or tags. Such as "restrict", "seal", "release", "explode." Etc.. And just as you said above with Fire, Water, Lightning etc..

Take one of your scrolls and write the kanji for "seal" upon it..

Having been equipped with enough scrolls, I unwrap an empty one, followed by writing the kanji, "シール" with some ink on the scroll.

Now place a kunai or weapon over the scroll and and place oyur hand over it, inserting your chakra into the seal. Activating the seal and allowing your weapon to be sealed inside.

( Han'you Fūin ) - Generic Sealing Technique

To further test the ability of this technique, I inject my chakra into the scroll once again, this time my aim to get the sealed kunai back out.With enough concentration, a puff of smoke is created once again, revealing the kunai previously sealed.

This was used to lock sasuke in suspended animation while the Curse mark matured in his body putting him at a near death state if you remember. I dont expect you to use this in battle...as they updated this jutsu from what it used to be, which was a seal that just locks you in suspended animation if you slap someone with it...

After taking out an appropriate scroll, I write the kanji for fire "火". I channel enough of my chakra into the scroll, once done, I perform the necessary handseal. At this time, your Fire jutsu is approaching. Vapour is released from the scroll which I'm holding, the vapour envelops the fire jutsu, sealing it back into the scroll successfully.

However this flows through the nervous system and restricts the movement of muscles. This slows down the opponent and prevents him from using A-rank Tai and above for three turns.

Write the kanji for "restrict" upon a tag and then slap it on my clone channeling your chakra into it to activate the electrical current to restricts his muscle movements and lowers his tajutsu capabilities..

This seal is great against Taijutsu users, allowing them to use only B rank and below Taijutsu.

( Shishienjin ) - Four Violet Flames Battle Encampment

Damage Points: N/A ( 60 if the opponent makes physical contact with the barrier )
Description: This technique requires four people to use. The people must be standing forming a square, they will then make the snake handseal and clasp their hands. A barrier forms around them on all sides, stopping anyone from outside from coming into the square. If they touch the walls, they will be burnt by violet flames. The casters can add a secondary barrier inside to prevent them from being attacked by enemies caught within the square; although by doing so, they are unable to attack as well.

Now create 3 shadow clones to perform this next technique.

Once you do have them stand in a square formation with my clone at the center. Now all of you need to make the snake handseal channeling your chakra to form a barrier around my clone.THis stops anyone from coming inside.

But a second barrier can be made that prevents anyone that was trapped inside from attacking you. But that means noone will be able to attack each other

Description: A special tag that utilizes the mark of confusion. When placed upon an opponent and using chakra it burns into the opponents skin. This chakra tag causes chakra to flow towards that particular area, causing a disruption within the flow of chakra as well as making it harder to control chakra(adds -10 chakra to any jutsu that the opponent will use for 4 turns).
Note: This jutsu can only be used twice in battle.


Write the kanji for "confusion" upon a tag. Place it upon my clone inserting your chakra into it activating so that it burns his skin and starts disrupting his chakra flow that his techniques lose power for 4 turns.
