Hi all, so i havn't played RS for like 6 months, but my current GF plays it and wants me to get back into it, so i tried Downloading the client and opening it, it gets to fetching Updates at 92%, shows a (10) like that and then closes.

I then tried the browser client and that wouldn't get past the updates neither.

I then tried going into windows+r by following a mod video and deleted a file called preference.data.

None of this has helped, so im at a loss...any help?

Go into your user folder and delete anything that is similar to jagexcache, jagcache, etc and try to re-download the cache via browser. Also, make sure that your Java is the most recent version.

I'm guessing you're on about RS3? I don't play RS3 but the OldSchool version instead. If the client isn't working then you're gonna have to update all the latest updates.

Tried that, and i just downloaded the latest Java.
Thats most likely your issue there. Sometimes different verisons of Java affect applications differently. Try uninstalling Java completely, restarting your computer and install a older verison like 1.6.45.

I used to play the browser verison at work and the later verisons of Java didn't set well with R3. Try the browser after the above steps and if it prompts you saying the Java verison needs updated, click don't show me this again. An choose continue this time.

Reference: I'm a IT Technician for Honeywell. I sit at a computer helping with these kinds of issues all day.

Alright, have you tried multiple browsers? If you get time, you can install teamviewer and ill remote in and look at it for you. I know i played with IE verison 8.

If a program get's to around 90% and fails it's usually due to it not being able to either create the necessary folder or find the required folder to install certain items in. The common issue is with the start up folder and it being hidden. So I'd check that. Windows 7 and win xp had a bunch of these issues, most common is with Silverlight, but worth a try.
