RP Contests

So, this has been suggested a few times over the past few years. But how would you guys feel about RP based contests? I.E - Bio of the Month, Fight of the Month, etc. What kind of contests would you guys want to see? Any and all suggestions/critiques are welcome! And, if your suggestion is good enough, you might just see it implemented when contests are relased.

Bio of the month doesn't seem so RP related to me. It's either going to be given to the one with the best history or the best design. I'm not against the contest, but it would be a GFX or Literature contest.

I like the idea, but what would be the method of selection and submission? If there's a voting system, it'll become a contest of who can ask more people to vote for him over Skype.

Biography of the Month - Edit- Defending: RP bios are a way to articulate a person's character to be in the RP, which to means it could be GFX/Lit, but they'd still be presenting their RP information cleanly and artistically pleasing t the viewers. If that isn't RP based, I don't know what is...

My biggest concern with any sort of RP Contest is how they would be judged? Take the tenative RP Battle Contest: everyone's sense of role playing is different so it'd be judged differently depending on everyone's definition. Would this be guided based on strength and power? Or perhaps ability to stick to your character? What about depth and emotional detail put into the fight? I think that's something that should be taken into consideration when it comes to promoting these kinds of contests.

Personally I think there's too many variables to have these kinds of contests, but hey if it gets people interested in the role play and by extension boosts activity, I'm willing to support it. ^^

Also Ahmed makes a good point about the popularity contest. Something like this doesn't quite feel as if it would work if voting was allowed.

The bio of the month would never work.
I don't see how it has to do anything with the RP at all. The design is more GFX and requires skill and the history part probably has to do with writing skills, similar to the fan fiction contest.

I found those plausible ^^. They don't require any unnecessary skills outside of the RP.

Can't think of anything specific yet, but it would be nice to have a contest related to the recently added RP missions. Would make more people want to do them.

And this one is not actually a contest: An award for a random active NW RPer who avoids quoting in battles or whose quotes are always justified (edit: "justified" seemed like the wrong word to use but am not sure what to replace it with lol)... something like that. Could be awarded once every 3rd-6th month.

I feel a rp highlight of the month should be in place. So it can be you post a bio or fight or some part of your ninja world story like with nk and all his plotting. This would give variation. The mods then agree on 5 of the money's submitted then those five go to the public vote. I only say this as first come first serve doesn't work in our to with how long some things can take

Personally I think a bio contest wouldn't be a good idea, it in no way tests the persons RPing skill and a lot of people can get others (non-Rpers) to do it for them which doesn't seem right. Not only that, it will encourage people to submit/drop shit loads of bios just to try and win and it will create more work for the Mods checking them.

A battle test of the month or something like that seems like it could work, imo ofc. It will not only encourage the proctor and testee to put more effort into their replies, it will push people to take up more challenging tasks instead of just fighting in the battle arena, bringing with it more activity and an increase in RP quality due to people wanting to win.

Also I don't think any of these contests should be decided by public voting, (if Trump being elected has taught us anything, its that people don't know what the **** they're doing) because it just becomes a popularity contest and we know how that ends.

This is a great way to incentivize people to perform their best at whatever they're doing without giving out abilities as prizes: Battle Test of the Month, RP Performance of the Month, RP Story of the Year, (a contest involving the new mission system as Tsuki suggested which would also encourage more participation in that), Battle of the Month (NW or BA), RP Meme of the Week. These are the kinds of contests I feel would work, and I also agree that having the winners decided by public voting probably isn't best; having the RP staff judge the winners collectively as a group ensures that the most objective decisions are made. Would be fun to have a public poll on each contest held however, just to see who the community thinks won.

I feel like there are already a lot of RP related awards such as Outstanding performance (Iwa exclusive ), Sensei of the month, winner of tourneys etc.

Though adding contests that people above me mentioned would make things a lot more interesting. At least It would serve as a sort of motivation for people who care about winning as much awards as possible.

Fights and bios are only rarely heavy on RP elements if you ask me. Plus, there is already a ton of ways to earn prizes, etc, by fighting. How about we create a contest for actual role play? The most compelling story told, the most interesting exchange, etc. You could make a nomination system where NWAs/Mods/Senseis nominate some RP in the NW and members vote on it, or vice versa if you do not want it to become a popularity contest. How well you RP does not depend on your fighting skills, so a contest like this would be inclusive and open to members of all join dates. It would also encourage people to read each other's biographies and role-play posts.
I would really like to see people being rewarded for participating in some outstanding role-play exchanges that do not lead to a fight. Like I said; there are a hundred ways to earn prizes by fighting. This should not be that.
