Yes, DBZ was an inspiration for Kishimoto!
And lol it is DBZ much!
Have you seen the colorings where Son Goku is given the Red fur color like the Super Saiyan level in which they grow the red fur!

I was guessing four....but I'm not a DBZ expert so I figured I'd leave that to a pro XD! I do remember crazy giant monkey mode though LOL!!!

The DB manga is one of Kishis all time favorites. Its pretty obvious Narutos character/personality is based on Goku as well.

This. It is simply the Four tails relating to the fourth dragon ball (Idk for sure...remembered hearing that one was important), Son Goku having Goku's name, Son Goku being a monkey (with a color scheme like the Super Saiyan Four), and the master of the four tails being Roshi (Goku's master: Master Roshi).

Like most things in Naruto (susanoo, izanagi etc...) they are based/inspired by the japanese and chinese mythologies.
The sanins are based on the tale "Jiraiya the gallant"
So like in the other cases Son Goku is based on the Chinese character "The monkey king - Sun Wukong" (Sun Wukong is called "Son Goku" in japanese) in the tale "Journey to the West"
But while this is true, it's also true that DBZ is one of Kishimotos great inspirations - and his alltime favorite mangas. And that combined with his mythology themed characters/jutsus might very well have been the reson for him choosing the name/color scheme

I said based, yes they arent identical but Naruto shares Gokus essential character traits (e.g. hes not very intelligent/goofy, more sentimental than rational, has the "never give up" attitude (well mostly) etc).

thats just bull crap you do know kishi is influenced by more than just akira toriyamas stuff he also liked yuyu hakusho, akira, ghost in the shell, sasuke(which is an old anime about ninja it has a different name for the english version)
and what is interesting to know it was akira that sparked his passion for manga again as he seen the poster for the movie and stared at it for like an hour just because he names two characters after roshi and goku from dragon ball hardly makes it a copy
