What is a hammer? A hammer is one of the most common tools in the world, next to screwdrivers and saws. Being comprised of a wooden handle and a metal head, which in itself is generally clyindrical in shape (almost said "rounded rectangular"...
), with one end having a small portion where it "bottlenecks", or becomes thinner before expanding into a large, flat end, while the other end is flattened and curved with a part down the middle of the flat end. The side with the bottleneck, the flat head of the hammer, is generally used to hit nails into an object, generally a wooden board, while the other end, the flat, curved bar-like side, is used to pull nails
out of an object by utilizing the part down the middle of the bar.
Beyond its general use as a tool to build something, a speciallized hammer in which the metal end is simply a large block of metal with flat ends, commonly known as a Sledgehammer, is used to destroy objects, utilizing the weight of the metal head along with the handle, which is longer than its tool counterpart, thus giving more leverage, to create larger impact and thus provide more power for destroying things.
Finally, a third type of hammer is the War Hammer, which closely resembles the tool for building, with the exception that the curved bar on the back of the hammers head is instead, generally, either a metal spike or simply flat-faced, and the handle is much longer than either the hammer tool or sledgehammer, allowing the wielder to attack while not having to get terribly close to an opponent. My utilizing the long handle of the hammer, and the blunt, metal head, the wielder can deliver strikes of devastating force to the opponent, easily breaking bones. In the Inheritance series (sometimes mistakenly called the "Eragon series"), the main character's brother, Roran, uses a common hammer tool as his weapon in a major war agains the empire of Alagaesia.
