Should Religion have such a strong role in politics as it did in the Republican National Convention or in some countries around the world? Should religion and religious institutions have any influence on politics?

In America (Not sure if this site is international or not) there is seperation of church and state, but that was to keep politics from interfereing with religion. Whether or not it SHOULD have a place is irrelevant because it DOES have a place regardless if it was intended or not. A person will always be affected by their beliefs and so their politics will (mostly) be affected by that.

Not really because it could go to point where we have to kill gay people because every religion says marriage is between Man and Women not two men.........so in someways using religion in politics could become dangerous to other citizens.

I had to think about it for a while, but I went with yes. I'm also going with no too...it's complicated. xd

Separation of State and Church.

It's more of a removal of church from state, not state from church so much. ;)

Oh, and your sig, much better. xd

Actually it is not church from state. The idea is that the state should have no bearing over a individuals belief system or that a government can even grasp the idea of an individual's personal belief system, which resulted in the government basically saying "**** it, do what you want. Just don't kill anyone and we're cool."

No it shouldn't. The stereotypes that Republicans are all hardcore Christians and Democrats are less religious pro-science really bothers me!

EDIT: This is because I'm that awkward atheist-republican.

...So you wouldn't mind if I thought the same thing about atheism, right? My opinion is just as good as anyone elses, so therefore it must be true.

Its gotta be for what the majority of the society wants.

An islamic nation won't want a non-muslim to run their nation, there would be riots. Having a particular religion strongly run a secular society would also cause mischief.

In a society with a vast array of mixed cultures, religion should not play apart. But the goodness for humanity should. Anything to avoid death, poverty and dept for a nation.
