There's a big possibility that this also applies to normal devil fruits.

Now you probably all thinking what does this have to do with Roger's devil fruit, Well Roger died in his home place which was West Blue, His devil fruit spawned there, then when Shanks was there he found it, yes it was the gomu gomu no mi.

That Explains why he had a sickness it probably had to do with the fruit since it's techniques reduce your life span.


That's also probably why Akainu wants to Kill Luffy so badly.

Huh never really thought about that. Your theory does make sense and could have been a cool idea if true. The one downside to that is Garp, Whitebeard, and all the old timers would know that was the case, and if so we would have heard something about it in the manga by now in my opinion.

I know it sounds kinda bad the whole the chosen boy thing but i wouldn't like anyone to have roger's devil fruit other than Luffy they're so similar.

Yeah I know Oda like mystery and surprising us fans. But Roger was The King and if they shared the same ability someone especially Garp or WB would have been surprised and shocked to see Luffy with Rogers fruit. Dont you think?

Garp is tight lipped after he told Luffy his father's name and he immediately regretted it maybe he also thought if people knew, it would make him more wanted and thus he didn't talk about it.

WB was at war he probably didn't really care.

There are four flaws with this:

1) Who says Roger even had a DF? There have been no indications that Roger was a DF user.

2) There's a difference of around a decade between the death of Roger and the moment Luffy ate the fruit. I find it hard to believe that Shanks would have a chest with the DF of his late captain stand wide open wherever he goes for a period of 10 years.

3) If Luffy and Roger would have eaten the same fruit, people should have mentioned it countless of times. Roger was the most infamous person in the world. It's plainly impossible that no one would have mentioned that connection, especially not when it concerns people who definitely would have known that Roger had eaten the Gomu Gomu no Mi like Buggy for example. Instead most people weren't that particularly impressed and some even laughed at it.

4) The Gomu Gomu no Mi is not bad for your health, it does not reduce your life span. It are Luffy's Gears, techs he developed himself, that reduce his life span. Also that is something different than having an illness.

THIS has always been my theory as well! Rogers fruit, if in fact he had one, would be the gomu gomu.

And the fruit appearing on Punk Hazard has always been in the back of my mind. I like your explanation!

Caliburn's number 3 destroys this theory. That brings up a tremendous writing flaw if Roger had it.

Roger doesn't have a DF, he wielded guns and swords and probably had Haki of the highest caliber.

i dont think rogerhad a devil fruit.
when we look at the flashback of buggy eating devil fruit, the rogers crew didnt even knew devil fruit were real.
i think all the rogers pirates are haki users and emperor shanks crew is also based on them.

point number 3 solo/..garp,WB,rayleigh,everyone at the war no one states any similarity to luffy powers and rogers.

the reason that roger may of had the rubber df is because in the first episode shanks refers to it as his treasure worth so much.
shanks is not the type to care about money and the other thing he refers to as a treasure is the rogers hat.
after luffy eats it with what he said about standing up to the bad guys he gives him his hat
but we will see in the end
