In episode 284, Sai and Lee are fighting Jinin and as Sai finally understands how to use the Sealing Technique he turns to Lee and says this:

To me, this is a set up for Lee's death. There are bound to be some heavy casualties at the end of the war, regardless of the outcome.

Lee's a beast, no doubt. And I agree with the Guy theory as another possibility, but the way Sai says this just screams that they're going to kill him off and Sai never being able to give him a nickname is going to squeeze his new-found heart. And, as I said before, there are bound to be severe casualties
