Rock Lee and Gai Sensei and Underdeveloped Characters Do You Agree?

This is NOT a hate thread just to get that out of the way. I am a pretty big fan of both Gai and Lee(Lee vs Gaara and Gai vs Kisame were both epic). But it becomes completely clear that both Lee and Gai have to rely so heavily on the gates that it becomes a bit of an annoyance, i would love for them to have earth style to have rocks connect to their feet and hands to be even more powerful. Off topic but Neji should have been developed way more, he had so much potential but we never got to see him fight that often.

I agree but since they are not the main characters, you can't expect Kishi to develop them too much.

agree,,, lee needs more screen time but he is not main character so..

They are nicely developed considering they are supporting character, Lee can be a borderline main character if his love for Sakura was emphasized. That would be a good thing, because that will give them both more screen time.

The entirety of the K11 minus Team Asuma (who received legitimate development) have been neglected.


Rock Lee can't use jutsu so his Gate Reliance is assured... a good idea would have been to show his hard work makes him less tired from using the gates.


Gai should have used some Ninjutsu in addition to Taijutsu.


Obviously the rest of the K11 follow suit.

lee was developed enough i think...gai couldve gotten more but we got a decent amount of backs story for the both of them i do agree with the eight gates thing tho

Gai got good deal of paneltime in war arc.

Martial arts in diverse in its own field; they might rely on gates but taijutsu is always appealing to watch.

Lee needs some more development though. I don't think taijutsu and gates are limited fields; if Lee got more panel time; he could show more combined techs in gates, base taijutsu movements, some more improvement in intelligence, weapon and trap usage etc. It is just up to author that what he chooses to give a character.

I wouldn't count on them getting any development. Kishimoto himself said that he doesn't feel like Lee needs any development. Besides, if you like him so much, why would you want him to change?

gai in my opinion is not underdeveloped due to him actually being able to use chakra but lee is way underdeveloped due to non chakra usauge but the fact that he is as strong as gai in gates (Both equal in gates respectively) but it would be cool if kishi gave lee some power ups haha
