Genin
"A life only lead by pain is one that is only guided by hate. The hate that encompasses the world and sets us astray. Pain so dark that known can understand it's roots. So deep that it can not be redrawn. That is the life of a shinobi.
The fear that runs through are pitiful existence and into the world that we hold a part in is what compels us to continue are flight through war and violence. We as shinobi sacrifice our lives to give back to what we love, but what does a shinobi who has lost it all fight for? The answer that I have given myself is that we who have lost what we loved fights for the hope of death. With nothing to hold onto we have nothing to lose, and thus no reason to hold back."
The first day as a Genin was marked by the usual questions that a sensei asks his students. What does a ninja fight for, what are his strengths, how does he think... Road sat in silence after her answer. The eyes of her new comrades floated over her like death hangs over a corpse. The feeling never passing even when the moment fades away. Her new allies' answers were the mirror of her own. "A ninja is compassion", "Love is what we fight for.", and the ever popular "We fight for change". She could only smirk at their naive answers and attitude.
The following months were marked by the repetitiveness of pointless missions and the joy of training, New techniques and new found strength seemed like the only good part of the months following the move to Kirigakure. Her teachers eyes followed her growth and encouraged her progress.
The Chuunin Exams passed without incident. Only one of her teammates failed to become a chuunin and with that failure was her joy. Seeing another person's disappointment was all she needed to feel happier. For him to understand a small part of the despair she felt was a godsend.
Chuunin
Days turned into months as training and completing missions began to become interlaced. Life was moving fast and things were becoming better, but the hole was still there. It never got bigger, yet it wouldn't get smaller. The pain was gone and so was the terror, but despair... it seemed her despair was watching, waiting for her to give in. Waiting until it could reestablish itself in her heart.
It seemed that her despair would continue to live inside of her. Until she met a man. He was charming and bright. His soul was the opposite of hers. Where she held darkness, he held love, compassion, and joy. He was what made her complete. The light to her dark, weary core. With him came joy that she couldn't remember ever having.
They did everything together and seemed inseparable, but of course nothing great comes without sacrifice.
The moon shone in the sky above, clearly marking their target. A small man could be seen running through a field and towards Kirigakure. Although his motives weren't certain the pair could clearly see the head band that he wore. It's symbol was a shock as Road hadn't seen many of it's kind since her move to Kiri. A moon was all she could see before charging towards the man with a sword drawn.
A quick slash and then a jump. Followed by her companions attack. It was quick, but also precise. Over with a single movement. It seemed they had succeeded, but with a loss that outwayed the victory.
He was dead. As dead as the fallen ninja that they were after
.
The thing that bothered her was that her despair had not returned.
The last thing she had left in this world had left. She did not feel the emotions that marked her previous loss. She felt nothing, but the lack of everything.
