I am really curious as to how Rin actually died.
As we all know Kakashi said he failed 'to protect' her. One thing that makes me curious is WHEN did she die?!
I have a theory that it was during the timeskip that Rin died. Perhaps Rin was kidnapped while being with Kakashi (and he lost sight of her). Tobi may have killed her from Hatred to gain more power (MS) that is why maybe Tobi (the tobi with orange mask) only appeared at the start of shippuden and simultaneously Kakashi got his MS after the timeskip.
Now I know he attacked the village 16 years ago with a mangekyou, however I believe there was two Tobis and that is another matter for me.
Why I believe there was two Tobis?
It was confirmed by Kishimoto in the late July interview that Tobi and Madara know each other. Which means Madara somehow had a way to survive for many years after the battle, and his death may only be recent. (Oro had a way of staying alive too. I wouldn't be surprised if Madara was able to as well)
Perhaps Madara saved Obito from the rocks and taught him and let him continue his plans.
So perhaps Tobi 2 (obito) only appeared recently after gaining MS, knowledge, training and intelligence.
I don't think it was obito who had the nine tails because it was said many times Kakashi = 30yrs old (proof: naruto databook) 16 years ago the nine tail attack was when Obito/Kakashi were around that age.
It took naruto 3 years to improve under Jiraiya. I can't accept the fact that Obito went to Kage level in less than that time span, even under Madara.

I believe it's recent (Between naruto part I and part II) maybe when Kakashi said he failed to protect her perhaps she was kidnapped by Tobi long ago and she was killed only recently (I dont know) that would explain why Kakashi got the MS because his eye is connected to Obito!
