Rinnegan is the final and evolved version of the Sharingan. So... technically, it should be superior. However, because certain techs may not be available to use with the Rinnegan, the Sharingan and it's variants (MS & EMS), I think they might be almost as useful as the Rinnegan. It depends on the situation.

I believe Itachi and Nagato are on equal grounds. It's just an opinion though...

and we know when Nagato fights alone without any other corpses (Yahiko..) then he is a lot stronger.

Agreed. For example, Itachi mastered his EMS and possessed legendary Totsuka Sword and Yata Mirror. On the other side, we've got Nagato who hasn't mastered his Rinnegan but is OP character no matter how you put it.
