I re watched the pain arc today and there were a few instances they had a close up on pains eyes

in the kakashi fight and the naruto one and in the naruto oe the pupuls widened so i was wondering could it cast genjutsu

That's how the anime shows nagato's chakra taking control of a person's body. Kakashi was stabbed by pain's rod, hinata was holding the rod, and naruto was stabbed up close by the rods.

but the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence

Its hard to imagine why kakashi would have missed raikiri in a close range situation, unless he was effected by the rinnegan which the manga page leads us to believe..

I believe the 3 great doujutsu all are strongest in 1 area of jutsu. Actually only the sharigan is shown to both genjutsu/ninjutsu. For example byukagan=taijutsu sharigan=genjutsu rinnegan=ninjutsu

If you can count susanoo/ameratsu as ninjutsu anyways

Guys, it's just pain using the chakra rods to manipulate the actions and movements of his targets stabbed by the rods...

Yes. Which is why i said not genjutsu but a doujutsu. its possible that the chakra rods are associated with the rinnegan. that is all I am saying. I dont know the origin of the chakra rod but thats my theory. I suppose he controls the 6 paths through the chakra rods. 6 paths is a rinnegan tech so its a doujutsu. The chakra rods are mearly tools. the rinnegan has to project through the rods

i dont think it was just the chakra rods kakashi had no rod in him at that time for one and the peins are covered in them
