Her mother may have been a Senju. You can't rule people out of a clan based on their surname! Naruto should have been Naruto Namikaze, but then we would have nothing besides Kushina to link him to the Uzumaki Clan.

Dunno. Kishi has been tying up plot holes, so it'll be brought to light in later chapters. When you write you don't want too many sub plots going at once or it confuses your reader, the responses on this forum at various points of this story are proof of that.
