Interestingly enough, madara knew how to awaken the third eye BUT by using the information stored on the stone tablet...

as we all know the stone tablet is written by rikudou.

So brings us to the question, How in the hell did hagoromo know how to awaken the 3rd eye?
It's quite simple really. He awoken it himself!
But TOG, Why hasn't he showed us the readers that he has this sharinnegan?

That red eye marking is highly likely a seal he used to seal away his sharinnegan!
He must've tried out MT himself but he found it too evil so he sealed away his 3rd eye to stop MT from being casted...
It explains how sasuke got the juubi eye as well, hago possibly transferred that eye power to sasuke in case madara awakened that 3rd eye and planned on using MT therefore Sasuke got that eye for any hope of surviving MT.

No, otherwise, he would not admit inferiority to his mother. Hagoromo can only manifest the eyes by summoning the Juubi. Obito demonstrated the same thing.

It's debatable atm but it's more logical that kaguya got that 3rd eye from eating the god fruit.
At this point one can awaken the 3rd eye by having both rinnegans(But has to be the original owner) and reflecting it on the moon or eating the god fruit.

1st of all, he never said she was stronger than him when he was a Jinchuuriki. 2nd of all, he never gave in the detail of how she was stronger than him. And 3rd of all, the god fruit comes from Juubi. Until Kishimoto goes into Kaguya's strength depth, Hagoromo is more powerful than his mother thanks to the feats that supports it.
