Credits to Derp Obito for some info.

We all should know by now that Kishimoto likes to use Japanese culture in his story.

I've come to the realization that the Shikotsurin (the third sage den that Itachi mentioned); was inspired by the province of Shikoku.

Shikoku (四国) is the smallest and least populous of the four main islands of Japan, located south of Honshū and east of the island of Kyūshū.

Now I will be showing the correlation of Shintoism and Buddhism to the Shikotsu province.

If you haven't read this theory of Derp Obito's, then you should because it details about Shintoism and Buddhism.

The Shikoku province is famous for its 88 temples of Kukai. The first temple of the 88 is called called the Ohoasahiko temple:

Ōasahiko Shrine (大麻比古神社 Ōasahiko-jinja?) is a Shinto shrine located at the base of Mt. Ōasa in Naruto, Tokushima, Japan. The gods enshrined there are Ōasahiko-no-Okami and Sarutahiko-no-Okami.

If you don't know, Sarutahiko Ōkami (猿田毘古大神, 猿田彦大神), is the leader of the of the Japanese religion of Shinto.

Going from Derp Obito's theory from today:

The Uchiha Clan symbolizes Shintoism (Susanoo,Amaterasu,Izanami,Izanagi, etc.)

The second temple of the 88 is called the Ryozen-ji (霊山寺) temple:

Ryozen-ji is a Shingon Buddhism temple.

Going by derps words again:

The Senju Clan symbolizes Buddhism

The shocking thing about these two temples is that these two temples are both in the same city. That is called Naruto.

The city flag of Naruto has the same design as the Uzushiogakure symbol.

We all know that Uchiha plus Senju equals the Rikudo Sennin.

Given the information above, I can state that:

The symbolism for Rikudo Sennin are in the city of Naruto

The symbolism for the Rikudo Sennin are in the Province of Shikoku

Is it a coincidence that the two temples that symbolizes Rikudo are in the city of Naruto? Is it a coincidence that the two temples that symbolizes Rikudo are in the inspiration of the Shikotsu Forest(Shikoku province)? I think not. Kishimoto does like to base his story off of Japanese stuff, so this might have been intentional.

Conclusion
  • I think that the Rikudo might have trained to become a "sage" in the Shikotsu forest, the third sage den that Itachi mentioned.
  • Rikudo is likely an Uzumaki.
  • Also, I think that the Shikotsu Forest has something to do with Uzushiogakure. It would explain how Hashirama was able to find this place so easily when it's been said by Kabuto that it is impossible to find any sage den without proper knowledge.
  • Lastly, it hints that Naruto may be indeed Rikudo.

Well it's been said he follows his culture, and everybody likes the idea of it since we don't know much about Japan.

I still can't see Naruto becoming the Sage.. So for now lets just say the Sageof6p is just a brand new clan that hasn't been pooped out yet, anyways props on your theory.

Let Kishi and his PnJ forge the way to the Six Paths for Naruto.

Juubi, just watch Naruto die and then revive him so he can come back from the deads as a glorious J-Christ Sage. Show everyone what is the Uzumaki Bloodline Power.

Excellent research, props to you sir :win:

Well, I've always known that there is a city called Naruto in Japan. So I spent like 15 minutes on Wikipedia trying to find ways to connect it to the story. Of course, your threads involving temples, shrines and such helped me out.

I have to agree with your reasoning, I also think the Rikudo Sennin is uzumaki, They had his sealing justu there well suited to be Jinchuriki
Madara implanted his eye's in one, the Senju and Uchiha are descended from the sage, I think Kishi has more to reveal
