Plus the feudal lord could blame Bort and ninja's in general for what happened. Maybe Bort is forced into exile or at least the feudal lord starts hating all ninja's blaming them all for what happened to his son and how he was powerless to stop them. He could maybe have the power to start a revolution against the ninja's to destroy them and that could maybe even lead into what Kawaki is doing later.
