If Tobi hadn't told Sasuke to get the hell away from Danzō, Sasuke probably would've been caught in the range of the Jutsu.
But in any case, the fact that Danzō vs Sasuke happened (with Danzō planning on facing "Madara" directly afterward) disproves your point.

Now does Danzō fear death? Obviously he does. Does he fear it for purely selfish reasons? Debatable. But does that make him a coward? No. That's just how it is.
