.That the Wii U hasn’t been everything that Nintendo hoped is as old news as the fact that the venerable Japanese gaming company is moving on towards its next home console, currently codenamed NX. But that transition might be a little more complete than we were thinking: according to a report in respected Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Nintendo will be shutting down production on the Wii U by the end of 2016. Nintendo responded with what looks like a denial:

“This isn’t an announcement from our company.” A company spokesperson told Japanese Site IT Media (via Kotaku), “From the next quarter and thereafter as well, production [of the Wii U] is scheduled to continue.”

Note that that statement could be entirely true even if Nintendo were ceasing production by the end of 2016. There’s an awful lot of wiggle room there, and Nikkei has a very good track record when it comes to Nintendo rumors. So while this is by no means an actual confirmation, I’d say this definitely puts this on the table as a real possibility. The Wii U has been a huge headache for the company ever since launch, and all eyes are very clearly looking forward to the NX. To date, the Wii U has sold a little over 12 million consoles worldwide.

That doesn’t mean the Wii U will exit the world entirely: we can assume that there’s a few of them still hanging around, so if anyone has a hankering for some second screen gameplay, they’ll likely still be able to pick things up for a little while. But even if Nintendo does continue production for the foreseeable future, the company is definitely eager to start the next chapter in their console business. It’ll be a tough call: both the PS4 and the Xbox One are handling the market nicely, and the company is going to have to pull a major left turn to recapture some of that old magic. A left turn in this case could just be a traditional console, but we’ll see.

Yeah this isn't surprising. Early rollout of their next gen console didn't help them before, and they're probably going to try to appeal to casual gamers again because they lost a bunch of their more hardcore market to Sony and Microsoft (the Brawlers and whatever are going to buy Nintendo consoles anyway, so they're not going to put effort into appealing to them). Expect another weirdo system to be announced within the next two years.

No. xbox and pc will be moving together. Microsoft is trying hard fuse xbox and pc to make their ultimate windows thing
In what world does that sound like a good idea? :| They are adding the Xbox library to a machine that not only has its own large library and content that is unrelated to Microsoft (Steam), that is capable of higher graphics, and is even upgradable.

The only thing this will do is take Xbox users and move them to PC. The only ppl that I could see logically sticking with Xbox are those that can't afford a high end PC

In the world where i can also play all pc games on my xbox. I will be honest I would have rather seen xbox being xbox but for example microsoft has always from the point windows 10 got out connecting the 2. We will get crossplay and I can stream to windows 10 devices from my xbox etc. It was just a matter of time both the ps4 and xbox are slowly becoming computers.

If u are going to stream PC games then wouldn't it be better to just use your PC :| Your PC has both libraries. It's basically just having two consoles, with one being sedentary. You can take your laptop anywhere

Not just PC I could go on holiday to a place in NL for example and when im bored and it would be late I could play through that on my xbone. It really is a good thing trust me. To have a good gaming pc you need to spend +1000$ and it is almost impossible to have a good gaming laptop. Even alienware laptops lack behind the gaming pc's. But lets play DN for now

Fine this can wait. My battery life isn't exactly up for doing both anyway
