Someone recently enlightened me of the fact that saying "plus rep" in a post can get you an infraction. My only question is: WHYYYYYYYY???!!!!

On this site, not enough people are being nice and giving out good rep, so why can't people let each other know that they appreciate what was said and that you're plus repping them.

I'm not going to go on another crusade and get myself kicked again, but please tell me why this is a rule???!!!!

I personally haven't heard of it. The rep has been mode for the sole purpose of spreading it...why would they give infractions for that? I don't think it's a rule, maybe that someone was joking U_U

Because it's considered off-topic post as well as a spam post, and the fact you said plus rep may lead to some sort of rep abuse, like you said plus rep. They may find the need to rep your post.

ah... you understood it all wrong , read what the OP said , he said this: Someone recently enlightened me of the fact that saying "plus rep" in a post can get you an infraction.

he said "saying plus rep" meaning that is a "+" and then you write "rep" in front of that and then its censored. And that gives him an infraction , that's what he is asking.

well... go and ask a mod and maybe he will answer you better than us :).

Rep is not made for spreading. The whole ''You need to spread rep around first, before giving it to this member again'' is probably one of the biggest misinterpreted things on vBulletin. It just means find some rep-worthy threads, before you can give rep to that specific member again. It doesn't mean, go around giving rep to 10 or more pointless posts, just to give rep to that one post you couldn't in the first place.

The reason why that isn't allowed to be said, is because once one person says it, other people think that they should follow the trend and also rep the OP, even if they probably didn't think the post was rep-worthy initially. That's one of the reasons why the rep system became so cluster****ed. And censoring that out helps to improve it.

Maybe if all you reply to a thread or post is "Plus Rep".

I don't see how adding that to an on topic post in reply to someone breaks any rules though.

I'm actually curious to see what a staff member has to say on this as well.

Recently i made a thread. Someone made a really good post. I commented on the post agreeing with what he said and ended with "+rep", then he said "i'd edit that man, saying +rep is infractable"

I wouldn't believe everything you read on the internet.

I know asking for rep is against forum rules, doesn't say anything about that.

Edit: Nevermind it does say not to do that in a post.

"Rep Abuse: While it is normal to give reputation to people who help you or have done something you found interesting for the forum, repeatedly asking for people to rep you, to rate your profile, or the participation in games like "rep me and I will rep you" are considered "cheating" and are not allowed. If caught spreading reputation points, Admins can set your points to 0. To question or try get your reputation back will result in that the reputation bar gets inactivated for the user. To write in a post that you gave negative or positive reputation is not allowed either as it is seen as a attempt to get rep back from other members.

Well what do you know, you learn something new everyday.

I'm NOT BEGGING FOR REP. I "GAVE" rep and was just letting a person know. I was asking why its against the rules. I'm not asking for ANY REP GOOD OR BAD. People are sooooo touchy on here. If it weren't for their terrible webpage design, i'd go back to narutoforums
