Which one is more beneficial to the other person? I read the FAQ on repping and it talked about "repping power"- where the more rep/posts you have the more significant your opinion (positive or negative) becomes. My question is this- at what point is repping better for the other person than clicking "Thank You"? (If I'm not mistaken, isn't "thank you" always five points?)

I believe they are the same thing...

Except when you hit "Thank you" it appears below the persons post...Also you can only thank an OP...

Thank you = 5 rep

a +rep = Depends on the persons rp (rep power)

rp is determined by 3 things.

Register Date Factor - For every X number of days (365), users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power
Post Count Factor - For every X number of posts (1000), users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Reputation Point Factor - For every X points of reputation(1000), users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

So determining on how much rp you have, a thanked post could be more or less than a thanked post.

Eh. But is there any way to see your rep power without doing the math?

Another thing to add.. a "Thanks" doesn't require you to spread any rep. Indeed, even if you get "Thanked" by a admins, mog, g-mod the points of rep is always the same. I've got rep from various staff members(seen in my sig).

Really? I didn't know. Thank you!xd

There is a special section, but it seems like it was removed again.

Oh... :(

Oh and rep power is calculated by the following. Your rep + your post count + 1.

Say you have no rep, no posts=1 rep power(you always start with one rep power)

Say you have 4000 posts, 2000rep=4+2+1(the one you start with). If you have 999posts, 999rep, then it's still just one rep power. You have to get over 1000 in either rep or post count to boost your rep giving power.

Take me for example.. I have 1,309 posts, and 4,005 rep. That means i have 6 in rep power (1+4+1=6). Also, if you neg rep you use only half your rep power, so if i where to neg rep someone i'd give out-3 rep.

Oh and one last thing.. I think it also increases with 1 point if the member has been active a year.

Actually, its 1 rep power for every 365 days as member, 1 rep power for every 1000 rep points and 1 rep power for every 1000 posts.

For example me:

11.445 posts + 4 years membership + 6777 rep points.

My rep power is 12+4+7=23 rep power.

(i think)
