I'd say Kensei and Rose are clearly captain level which supposedly is supposed to be the stronger characters. They also have hollowfication powers as opposed to other captains and at least Rose has a pretty useful bankai. Renji possibly has the worst zanpakto, specifically bankai, in the series, and in my opinion it keeps him below any of the current or past captains.

But after training with a very stupid and unnecessary group (zero squad really was a dumb idea), he's now making them look like garbage. I haven't watched DBZ in years, but if I remember, there wasn't really whole new groups of characters that were introduced later in the series that make previously strong characters look like crap.

Stronger characters?? Sure, you could say that. But then again if you count current and past captains, the Espada and the Sternritter then you'll have pretty much 30 or 40 characters on captain level, so being on captain level isn't THAT big a deal anymore. Ofc it's still means you're pretty strong, but one of the strongest?? Not necessarily.

And mentioning their hollow powers is pretty meaningless, since it doesn't make them that much stronger from what we've seen and in any case they didn't use it against Mask de Masculine.

And I don't see why Renjis zanpakto should be so bad. And in any case it doesn't matter much as Renji barely used it in the fight

AND JUST LOL!!! At the last sentence there!!! YOU CERTAINLY HAVEN'T WATCHED DBZ FOR A LONG TIME IF YOU THINK THAT XDXDXD
A simple example: Nappa. That guy seemed ridiculously powerful when he was first introduced.
Yet Vegeta made the guy seem like nothing!!
In next saga Freiza is introduced and that guy stomps Vegeta and ends up having a power level of over 1 freaking million!!
Nappa only had like 4000
Then the androids we're introduced later and those guys we're probably as strong as Frieza if not stronger!!

It's not even necessary to mention Cell or Buu

Renji is just reaping the fruits of his labor....the training under the Zero Squad.

So there is no chance of him losing a Sternritter Hulk Hogan wannabe.

I dont know if we will see Byakuya's bankai, let alone Zanpakuto again. We will see him recover, but its sword literally disintegrated into dust after he was slammed into the wall, then asking for Ichigo to bare the burden of protecting Soul Society. His was the only one that was completely destroyed compared to Ichigo's being cut in half and able to be reforged and Renji's being i would guess "cracked" as he was still able to use all of its power just not at its max potential.

OT: I believe that Rukia, Renji and Ichigo have reached 0-Squad level, beyond all captains at this point (Aizen as captain, not Aizen with Hougyuko) Whether they could all 1 Shot a captain, i dont think so unless Kubo decides to go cheap on a fight like Zaraki 1-shotting the Fullbringer Time Lord (Guy that looked like a butler with a bunch of pocket watches).
