Yeah sadly that merger killed activity. We lost like half the active members in one swoop and then the split cut the numbers down even more. And that all happened after the slow decline that was already reaching it's apex.

Yeah, it was just a matter of time. At this point, the site would need a complete member cleanse and restart to get the clout it once got. Anime is bigger than ever and the hype won't die down so it is achievable it would just need to be a collective effort.
