I always thought of the possibility of the series going this route. Shino's ability would have found itself limited against certain opponents. Sadly, most of the Shippuuden enemies were of this variety.

Actually, he would have done very well against most Akatsuki had his abilities received any development at all. People like Deidara, Sasori and Konan are just some of the stronger opponents he could very well have Solo'd with Fuu's level of techniques.

Shino goes unnoticed by many but in part 1 he was probably the most impressive genin in Konoha after Sasuke, Neji, Lee and Naruto. I'd say he's above Shikamaru at the time.
