I was thinking, if he had instead brought along Edo Itachi, Itachi could have Totsuka'd Turtle Island and sealed the whole damn thing.

Nah, he needed a flying Shinobi to get there in the first place, plus Deidara had to face off against Ónoki, Iwa vs Iwa style.

Battle was too easy for bringing in Itachi, anyway...

he needed someone with an ability to fly and someone that could incapacitate the intended victim/victims covertly since he intended to use Naruto and Bee as leverage. Would've been a problem using someone that had no flight ability and a sealing mechanism that didn't allow for the victims to be released.

so true, also that crow would have probably popped out of Naruto's mouth at that point releasing Kotoamatsukami on Itachi or possibly even Kabuto if he got in the way somehow instructing Kabuto to "Protect the leaf" further messing up the war plans XD
