What Obito meant there, is that if Itachi found out Obito would plan to attack Konoha very soon, he'd spy on his plans and tell Konoha.. That way, Itachi'd defeat Obito indirectly only. You should learn to understand things better.

Obito beats Itachi in a fight. Also, Obito wasn't actually afraid of losing to Itachi in a fight. Why should he try and fight Itachi when:

-Itachi was a valuable member of the Akatsuki, and was helping them sealing the bijuus.
-IF he did attack Konoha, valuable intel may have been leaked via Itachi

And if Obito did kill Itachi in a fight, he would lose a powerful member.
