Yamato (ヤマト, Yamato) is one of the major supporting characters of the series. He is a member of Konoha's ANBU, and a younger peer of Kakashi Hatake. He is introduced as a temporary leader of Team Kakashi, but has since continued to work with the team. "Yamato" is actually a codename given to him by Tsunade for the purposes of joining Team Kakashi.[2] While Kakashi was still in the ANBU, Yamato's codename was Tenzō (テンゾウ) — which Kakashi sometimes still calls him by — although Yamato prefers that Kakashi uses his new codename.[3][4] His real name is currently unknown.
