Before things get explained in the manga, there is a lot of speculation going on. Often we don't even see how absurd that speculation is, until after some time passes. =D
So, just for fun, I'm posting some of the theories I still remember, in no particular order, being suggested on the base:
1. Tobi having Obito's body but being controlled
Yup, after chapter 599 when we saw Tobi's face, the community raged and some people tried to find some really absurd explanation to this. Obito being controlled was one of the ideas. Now that you think of it, it was crazy even back then, because Tobi's knowledge of Kakashi was far too great to be just a coincidence.
2. Obito awakening both his and Kakashi's MS (instead of him activating his and Kakashi activating Kakashi's)
This one was not even explained in the manga (there was no need), but luckily, everone pretty much stopped claiming that. Guess the lack of evidence or indication for this one proved to be the best explanation.
3. Obito turning intangible by kamuing all his body back and forth between dimensions so fast that no one can notice it
This was a rare idea, but some people really believed it. It was ultimately proved wrong when it was explained that Obito just sends specific body parts, which only looks like objects pass through him.
4. Tobi being Kagami or Sasuke from the future
No need to say more, I think
I could also add some reaaaally old theories, like Akatsuki leader being Minato and stuff like this, but I don't remember them that well.
All of these mentioned are related to Obito, because that's what's been the main topic lately (lately, meaning, for two last years?), but I'm pretty sure we will be able to add some other theories to this list soon! For example the theory that Rin was a spy and Kakashi had to kill her. :bouncy:
