They both have their pros and cons. Objectively, the game is way better now, since it's grown more complex than ever, and all the new types of decks really add to its diversity, wich was always a strong point. The competitive scene is pretty much the same. 10 decks beating everything else till the ban list comes out.

The anime, however, sucks. The first three series (Duel Monsters, GX and 5D's) are great, however the new stuff like Zexal and Arc-V is a result of what happens when you change the targeted audience from Teen to Kids. I am happy tough, that they are in 2 different universes, meaning the Duel Monsters triology was completed with the end of 5D's. The new stuff is an alternate universe.

It definitely did. In the very first episode, his grandmother went to the hospital because a mother****ing card was ripped. A card being ripped put him in the hospital. He was on life support.
