Yes religious beliefs influence us whether directly or not. Even to atheists as their agenda at times is only to prove religious people wrong. lol.. :p

Your next question should be whether it will ever lose it's power the answer is probably never.

I think the only thing which should be discussed is how to adept and keep religion up to date with the new age, at the same time preserving the basic beliefs. No religion at the time it came to be was based on old static rusted ideas but was revolutionary in some way. If you insist on not keeping it updated then it will be spoiled like milk gone bad.

I'm not an atheist I believe something out there is a "higher being" but I don't believe in following any religion which has caused most of the bloodshed throughout the last 2 millennia.

The only religion I see as being selfless and true is Buddhism but not to the extent of renouncing all your earthly possessions and family and friends.

Christianity is BS tbh, sorry if I offend, that religion has changed so much in 10yrs its ridiculous. Gay Priests(don't have anything against them), Women Priests(same), Same *** marriage disapproved....oh wait now approved, child abuse being allowed because they're high up in the Vatican.

Of all the religions IMO Christianity has been the worst through time.

Crusades
Witch Trials
Dark Ages
"Healing Groups" in america charging money
Slave Trade
Science - Christianity could have held us back by hundreds of years in terms of technology

This thread is not about what you believe in. It's about whether you think religion has influence in politics and govt.

But since you brought it up you made the mistake of listing the mistakes of couple individuals and blaming it on the whole group or religion.

I'm christian but I don't agree with many of the things that other so called Christians have done in the past. But I didn't let that stop me from becoming a Christian. Being a Christian is not about molesting children or hunting witches or any of the mistakes other "Christians" have made, it's about having a personal relationship with God.

You blame the dark ages and slave trade on Christianity? Cuz those things obviously weren't about people in power trying to gain more power right..

Christianity could have held us back by hundred of years in science?!? Fallacy in this statement. How do you know that? What proves that? That statement can never be proven true or false.

Healing groups charging money. Are you agaisnt hospitals that charge money also? Or hospitals that don't treat unless you have insurance?

There has been many many wars based on otter issues so why is the crusades a big deal?

Witch trials. People were accused of being witches, they would be imprisoned, tortured and most times put to death. If people ddnt have religion you think things like the witch trials wouldn't occur? During world war 2 many people were accused of being Nazis in America. During the cold war many people were accused of being communists. After 9/11 many people were accused of being terrorists. You think all these people accused were actually Nazis, communists and terrorists?! Many of them never received a fair trial.

It's not religion, it's power, give anyone power and they will be corrupted. If it were not the church that had power or any religious implement, then today the other structure of power would be in the same position as religion. If religion wasn't corrupting everything because it didn't have power, then the thing with power would be accused.

Im not blaming the individuals and blaming the many. I was focusing on the religion as a whole through time...I have a lot of christian friends and like yourself I don't blame them for past mistakes in the religion. But its still going on and the "leaders" of the faith are polluting its image.

Kisamerocks said imperfectly. It's not aboutthe religion. It's about the people in power. People in power are corrupt and if it wasn't Christianity and something else than we'd be arguing about something else.

And you are blaming Christianity for the mistakes that a couple of bad people made.

Why didnt you focus on the good that Christianity promotes and has
Done instead of focusing on the corrupt individuals that have done bad? What about missionary groups? People that go to 3rd world country and not only preach but try to help the poor and weak? Non profit organizations and hospitals made by Christians? Why not talk about the morals that the bible teaches?

Anyways if you don't give a eff than you wouldn't have responded. And imma stop before someone gets butt hurt and reports that I'm shoving my opinion down peoples throats and closes this thread.

Overall it has little.

There really isn't much to be explained on this topic. All I'll say is just look at the world now (drugs, ***, crimes, media, corruptions, government, and etc) and as years go on it will decrease even more.
