[Discussion] Religion ruining a relationship?

Me and my mom are having this quarrel about this topic.

So basically, let's say you're catholic. And you're lover is a Jew or Atheist or something that went against your religion. Would you let that separate you and them? You love them. You know they are the one. But then you learn their religion goes against yours? Would you break up with them just because of that?

My mom is saying she would no doubt.

And I'm sitting here like, wtf. If you legit love someone and you want to spend the rest of your life with them, religion shouldn't matter to the extent in where you would cut all ties with that person. After all (unless you're really into god) your religion wont even come up in normal day things (besides church.)

So basically, I say no. I think if two people believe in two different religions, they shouldn't let that separate them if they truly love eachother. Kinda like Romeo and Juliet (minus the dying part ;~; )

As a former Catholic who had to take 10 years of Sunday School, there is no problem with marrying someone from another religion if you're a Catholic. If you want to get married in a Catholic Church, your spouse has to take a class or two about the faith. Apparently the classes aren't even religion heavy. The only stipulation is that the non Catholic has to promise to not interfere with the children being raised Catholic. Easy to ignore. So your mother is wrong. Parents are people who make mistakes like the rest of us. Marry who you want. Love who you want.

Your mom opposes mostly because I think she wants you to know the differences it would make after getting married with someone from other religion. Different religious practices maybe a hurdle sometimes, but if you love each other and know that you can overcome that barrier or if you are an atheist, I don't think there is anything wrong in going for it.U_U

Well Religion is a complex matter. And than again you simply don't tie knots with someone to that extent that you cannot live without him or her ,when you don't even know about that person's religion.

On personal basis If I am ever stupid enough to get in such position I will choose my religion.

I just Lol @ religion and do what i want. You really going to let something that isn't 100% proven to be real effect your happiness in life? Just think about it this way. Religion IS man made, no man, no religion. and now think about how many religions there are....THOUSANDS... why does the religion you follow have to be the correct one? You are saying everyone is wrong and is going to hell for no reason. Anyways, 99% chance all religion is wrong anyways. but hey, i always keep an open mind since nothing is 100% proven. but think about it that way. its only logical. well, ppl these days think that its cool to hate religion...just cuz they think no one should tell them what to do and they need to practice their right of free will.
If you are one of those ppl then anything i say won't matter,hell anything anyone says won't matter...as long as you don't break the laws of the country do whateva....this is probably the right answer since you don't believe in anything.
