Well all I know about puppetry is that its a unique ninjutsu that allows you to control puppets using chakra threads. Skilled puppeteers can control more than one puppet at the same time using one chakra thread.

The technique originated from Sungakure and the founder was Sasori I believe. Chyio, Kankuro, and Sasori are the only people in the manga that were shown using this technique.

Basically right. Puppets are considered tools and we control them through small chakra threads. This is called Marionette, you might've heard or seen of this being practiced in real life somewhere, it's basically the same deal.

Puppetry wasn't founded by Sasori, he was taught by Chiyo. However, it was discovered by Monzaemon Chikamatsu who had created a small army of puppets now under the control of Chiyo.

Those were the only three puppeteers shown in the manga to use Puppetry, though there's a few more we can take inspiration from which appeared in other forms of media. Mukade, the main antagonist in Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Lost Tower was a puppeteer who had his own modifications to himself. Essentially, he could merge with all his puppets to create a huge beast capable of taking on a Rasenshuriken with almost no damage. There's been some in filler episodes who were shown using water sprayers in their mechanisms specifically to fight against Gaara's sand. In one of the video games, I believe it was Uzumaki Chronicles 2 there were a clan tailored around making "living puppets" to fight for their needs. It's good to look at what's existing when it comes to creating your own stuff, whether they be puppets, your own techniques or general strategies in battle.

If you don't have any questions, I'd like for you to go and find the rules and guidelines we puppeteers must follow. You can look in the Puppetry and Sasori threads in the Biography Rules section. Just point out the ones geared towards you.

-You can't have a KG/HA or SM/8IG in the same bio.

-Puppet users may not have shadow clone

-Only 3 puppet summons may be active at any time.

-Only a maximum of 2 puppets summons may be performed per turn.

These are the only rules I see that only affects me. Everything else is just Sasori stuff.

Yeah, most of the rules apply to Sasori only, but there's a few little things in there which apply to everyone. I'll look into getting them replicated in the Puppetry guidelines instead.

Nevertheless, I'll go over these in more detail if you're not quite sure as to what the rules mean or why they're in place.

-You can't have a KG/HA or SM/8IG in the same bio.
Pretty simple really, puppetry is now included as a Hiden Ability with a little less restrictions when it comes to combining it with other things. That being said, you can't combine it with another Kekkei Genkai or Hiden Ability. Additionally, you can't have Sage Mode or Eight Inner Gates with it either, mostly because using these would be too fast or complex for the threads we utilize and they would break. You can however, combine puppetry with Sensing or Smoke, granted you have the permission for those abilities as per the rules.

-Puppet users may not have shadow clone
I've spoken with other people on this topic as to why you're not allowed to use Shadow Clones as a puppeteer (not that we'd need them). The most plausible reasoning being that they're essentially copies of you, and as such can perform the Puppetry Technique which creates chakra threads. More people to control the puppets is a bad thing, and you'd be allowed to control more than three then, which is a big no-no. Other reasonings I've seen is that the original puppeteers weren't shown using anything like that. Also there's the fact that you'd be overwhelming them with eight seperate bodies: yourself, four clones and three puppets.

-Only 3 puppet summons may be active at any time.
While this isn't a big thing, it's more of a control issue. Only the most skilled of puppeteers were capable of controlling more than this number of puppets, like Chiyo with her Ten Puppet Army of Chikamatsu or Sasori's 100 Puppet Army. Of course, this only applies to puppet summons and not the puppets themselves. For example, Sasori's Parents which is technically two puppets will only count as one since it's considered one summon. Even though you can summon the two seperately if you want to, it'll still count as one puppet summon. There are some puppets which are excused from this ruling, such as Chiyo's Ten Puppet Army of Chikamatsu which has it's own restriction that it's the only active puppet summon allowed out at the time, but so long as you don't exceed that limit, you'll be fine.

-Only a maximum of 2 puppets summons may be performed per turn.
This is mostly because you'll need the third move in the turn to create the chakra threads in order to control the puppets, or you'd be a sitting duck. What good are puppets if you're not able to control the after summoning them? Consider this part more of a guideline than a rule, it's just here so that you remember to use the chakra threads as well. :)

If you have no questions, we'll move on.

(Kugutsu No Jutsu) - Puppetry Technique
Rank: D
Type: Attack/Defense/Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10(-4 each turn its used after wards)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes threads of chakra that are used to control puppets.

This is the most basic technique and the most important one we have to learn and use as puppeteers. Considering this is the technique which we must use in order to control our namesake puppets, it's pretty important. It's simply thinning out your chakra, excreting it through your fingertips and attaching them to your desired object. While it's mostly used for that reason only, there are other ways you can use it. I'd like for you to come up with another possible way for you to use this technique apart from it's conventional way.

1. When we first saw Kankuro he did some move with his hand to cause Naruto to trip. So that move had to be his chakra thread connecting to Naruto leg. I know its a temporary because it will be OP to be able to control your opponent unless they want you to control them.

2. If possible I could use it as a rope or use it how Spider-man uses his webs.

3. I could use it to manipulate my opponent kunais or shirukens when they throw them at me.

4. I'm pretty much sure you can't do this in the RP, but you can use the threads to redirect a move such as a fireball jutsu or any other projectile attacks.

5. Let say you have a broken arm or leg, you can summon a shadow clone and have him use the chakra threads to control your body and give him orders on what to do.

1. You can briefly control your target's movements if you're creative enough with how you do it. Though since this isn't a strong technique, you can't just control people however you want. Basically what I like to do is misguide them, using the threads to try and guide a punch or something to slightly miss me or not hit a vital area if you can help it. Another thing I like doing is momentarily binding someone's hands in the middle of a hand seal, allowing you to do something in return. It's all about creativity.

Though a strong enough puppet user can control weaker people, there's another technique for it which isn't on here so we use this one. Sasori was able to control some members of the Surprise Assault Squad Kankuro led in the Ninja War, but don't rely on that.

2. No, you can't use this like a rope. Remember that this is only chakra designed to manipulate puppets and other objects like tools and so on. Meaning that it's not that strong and can't simply be used like a rope. If you wanted to pull something towards you, that would be possible but nothing like a rope. I have a custom technique which allows you to do that though, which if you stick it out with puppets, I might consider teaching it to you. :)

3. Yes you can, and while you can control weapons like that, remember that it's not a wall. Connecting the string to th weapon won't make it stop, you'd have to misguide it or manipulate it to hit something else. Think of the style of puppetry we use: marionette. The string stays the same length to the puppet, and it's only by moving the string will it move whatever it's connected to. Except we have an advantage of being able to control the length of our threads, a rather convenience if I say so myself.

4. You're right, you can't use these to direct fireballs or other such projectiles. What you have to remember is that the threads are comprised of a weak chakra, so you can't really do much about techniques like fireballs. If you're skilled enough, you can use this against Earth based techniques due to their solidity (so not stuff like swamp). Just not fireballs since it would eat the chakra basically and you wouldn't be able to use it.

5. While this is effective in theory, one of the rules we spoke about earlier mentions this about not being allowed to use shadow clones. So you wouldn't be able to create chakra threads with a clone's orders or anything. The most you could do is form a Rock Clone or something similar to hold you up while you do other things.

While it's all nice and dandy, there's a lot more you can do with threads. For example, if you're in a forest environment and you're in hiding from someone who has no idea where you are, you could use this technique to pull on leaves, rustling them to generate noise of a false location. You can also use it to levitate kunai off the ground, like Chiyo has displayed, or even redirect your own weapon attacks after they've been thrown.

The possibilities are endless!

If you don't have any questions, we'll move onto the next stage.

(Karasu) Crow
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Crow is the very first puppet we see in the series. It was created by Sasori, but is later used by Kankurou. Crow is a three eyed, four armed humanoid. Crow is one of the more basic puppets, but he is able to detach any of its body parts for deadly attacks, almost every joint having a blade at the end, allowing Crow to shoot his arms towards the opponent, and then have them return back to it. Even his head has a blade that can be extended out from the bottom of its neck when detached. This ability made it and Black Ant a very deadly combination. It also has the ability, like most puppets do, to release poison-tipped darts and smokescreens, which sometimes have poisonous gas mixed with them.
Note: Can only be used by a Suna puppet user

(Kuroari) Black Ant
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Black Ant, created by Sasori, is a puppet that is often used in conjunction with Crow and, later on, Salamander. It has a bucket-shaped face with two red horns and a total of six arms. It, like Crow, has three eyes. Its body resembles a very large barrel, and it is hollow on the inside, making its main use to be that of trapping, while weapons enter the many slots on its body. At any time, Black Ant can literally open its stomach, and trap an opponent, able to extend the two halves of its stomach so that it stretches out and over the opponent from a very fair distance (approximately mid range) and then retracts the stomach back to its original form, closing it with the opponent inside. Its arm segments contain hidden saw-blades. Like Crow, Black Ant can detach its arms for attacks.
Note: Can only be used by a Suna puppet user

(Sanshōuo) Salamander
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Salamander is a defensive puppet, though not on the level of defense as that of Hiruko. Salamander, as its name suggests, is built in the form of a large salamander, being one of the largest puppets seen thus far, and though it is not more powerful defensively than Hiruko, it is larger than the other puppet. Salamander is able to rise up a large area on its back to be used as a shield, making a black shield over its head. It, like some other puppets, is hollow, and it can open its back at any time and then rise up its large tail over its head, stretching it out and therefore allowing the puppet user to jump inside of it for protection. Salamander can also spew out fire equal to C rank. Salamander can only be destroyed by one who knows its weak spots, being a weak joint on its side that holds the shield in place and afterwards simply striking it on its back, or by a move of A rank or higher.
Note: Can only be used by a Suna puppet user
This group of puppets are the basic three everyone get to use so long as they originate from Sunagakure when it comes to custom bios. They're pretty much the main trio which everyone should be able to use because of their uniqueness but extreme ability to work with each other. Crow and Black Ant are generally the main attacking force while Salamander sits back and acts as the defense. I'll clarify this a little more:

Crow is the offense of the three, with the most usages for it's appendages and most of the techniques centralizing around his ability to hold many weapons as well as releasing most of his appendages. One of the biggest traits about Crow is the ability to take a part it's entire body and put it back together again, and is best used with Black Ant's unique shape.

Black Ant is the supplement to Crow's many antics. It's unique shape and build compliments Crow's ability to segregate it's entire body in order to stab people with the tips at the end. The simple idea is for Black Ant to open it's large body up to capture someone, while Crow seperates it's body to reveal the dart-like tips at the end of each part which all stab into the encased target.

Salamander on the other hand is the defense to the trio. While you work your magic with the first two, the third is huge and isn''t exactly the easiest puppet to move around due to it's size. It's got a big shield which will protect you from attacks, a large salamander-like body which you can use to the best of your imagination and a flamethrower built into it's mouth, which is great for keeping people at bay.

It's a little short, but you get the jist of it, most of these have techniques which we'll learn about later which utilize most of their functions to a greater extent. If you don't have questions, we'll mvoe on.

I guess they are rather simplistic, not much you can do without the techniques, but before that I want to touch over Puppetry Freeform. Puppetry freeform is a little different from your standard taijutsu or kenjutsu freeform, but the principle is the same thing. The only difference is that you're allowed to use anything which is mentioned in the description and that you don't physically have to get into short range in order to do it; you just control the puppet. For example, it mentions that Salamander is in the shape of a lizard, so you can use the tail to hit someone, or using it's mouth to bite someone.

So what I would like for you to do is to create your own freeform attack using the three puppets and their abilities. Remember that they're all designed for different things, but you're free to do whatever you like. It'll be a standard scenario where there's a person, or dummy in this case standing mid-range from your initial position and you're free to attack.

I removed the scroll from my back and opened it as I did a handseal to summon Crow, Black Ant, and Salamander to the field. I charged Crow towards the target and activated its smoke screen so it would be unaware of its surroundings. While my target is blind, I will maneuver Black Ant behind my target. Three things I think my opponent would do in this situation are: 1. Use a wind jutsu to dispel the smoke; 2. Propel to the air; 3. Fire a wide spread jutsu in hopes of hitting me and dispeling the smoke at the same time. In either situation, I will be able to use Black Ant to trap them since he can stretch out his stomach to mid range. I will also have Salamander by my side to protect me from any incoming attacks. And to finish it off, I will seperate Crow's limbs from its body and attach them to Black Ant to finish off my opponent.

It is a nice combination, yes, but I didn't see Salamander being used anywhere except as a rudimentary defense, which is okay since he is the defensive puppet of the three. One thing you should be aware of is that the technique to create chakra threads "Puppetry Technique" can only extend up to mid-range, so you wouldn't be able to place Black Ant too far behind your intended target. But it works, nonetheless. One thing I will point out is that it's not a good idea to use freeform for techniques which already exist, otherwise people may call you out on it. Here, it's fine, but it's something to watch out for in the future.

I'll give you some tips in the future for puppetry specific freeform though, which you're free to use in a battle:
  • One thing to keep in mind, especially on puppets like Crow and Black Ant is the additional number of limbs they have, meaning you can make them hold more weapons if you like that sort of thing.
  • You can use unorthodox taijutsu with the puppets as well, since most of them do have the same body type as a human, there'd be no reason not to. It also helps that they have extra limbs in order to create the same effect, but multiple times.
  • Don't be afraid to try new things, even if it seems rather strange and not the way it's supposed to be used. Take Black Ant for example, the door of it's body can extend up to mid-range, so you can use that as a force attack like you were slamming a door into someone, or perhaps close the door while they're in the middle of performing hand seals.
Just remember the integral structure each puppet has, and use it to your advantage. They'll come in different shapes and sizes, how you go about using them is up to you.

Now that we're through with the basics of puppetry and using the puppets, we'll move onto the techniques they have. Now I've personally split them up into three different categories, and they're all pretty basic.

General techniques: These are basically techniques which every puppet usually has built into them as functions, and even people can use these techniques if they fit the requirements. As an example, Chiyo's right arm is a puppet arm, which can be used for the Chakra Shield technique. There's a few techniques which encompass these traits, and can be pretty much used by any puppet the user has control of.

Puppet-specific techniques: These can only be used by certain puppets unless for some reason it's specified otherwise in a puppet. For example, I have my own custom doll which has the ability to use Puppet May Rain, which can usually only be used by Crow. It's easy to point these techniques out, as they usually have explanation like "the user manipulates crow to do something".

Multiple puppet techniques: Techniques like these encompass the need to use two or more puppets at the same time. These can either be general techniques which you can use two or more of any puppet, or specifically tailored to certain puppets, mostly they'll be Crow and Black Ant. These usually only have up to three puppets, but might require more if the technique calls for it, and will usually use puppets like Sasori's Parents in order to accomplish the result.

If you understand everything that's going on, we'll move onto the next stage, where you'll start to learn techniques to use to help you.

I had a few combos with me utilizing Salamader's fire but it was little bit confusing and like to keep my fights simple so my opponent wouldn't complain. I will try to do better next time. *_*

Lets move on to the next step.

(Chakra No Tate) - Chakra Shield
Rank: C
Type: Defensive
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The puppets arm will pop out in four different directions in almost an umbrella-like manner. The arm segments will surround the puppets hand, and from those segments, chakra will emit, each one making one fourth of an entire circle, making a shield of pure chakra.

Simple technique, and any puppet has this function installed into one of their arms. Chiyo herself has her own puppet arm which makes her capable of performing this technique without the use of a puppet. The idea is for you to control a puppet to open up it's arm like an umbrella of sorts, and you focus chakra into the vicinity to create a shield of sorts, which can protect from basic attacks. Typically this works best against Taijutsu, and ninja weapons making it useful against things like Demon Wind Shuriken, but it's not a big technique and is better used to defend a small area rather than a big area.

(Senbon Ame) - Endless Rain of Senbon
Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The puppet will open its mouth wide, unleashing a torrent of senbon. All of the senbon are poison-tipped, meaning that a single hit by one could be deadly. These senbon can shower the opponent for as long as the user wishes.

It's another simple technique which doesn't require much explanation: the puppets have a special contraption inside of them with needles stored, and all of them are tipped with poison. You activate this and it works similarly to a gun, or a crossbow. This can be used for as long as you want which is great for serving as a distraction while you use another puppet to do something else.

(Doku Kemuri) -Poison Smokescreen
Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The puppet will open its mouth and shoot out smoke balls that are imbued with poison as well. This can be used to obscure the enemy’s vision and to spread poisonous gas in the area at the same time.

It's simply a smokescreen but with poison imbued into the smoke. This gives two effects of being able to hinder the opponent's eyesight while also poisoning them with the gas. As such, it's a dangerous technique if you can pull it off.

(Doku Kiri Jigoku - Baribari Hyaku Renpatsu) - Poison Mist Hell - 100 Countious Tears
Rank: A
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: 60(- 5 per turn for 3 turns if the target was caught in the mist)
Description: The user send out two puppets. One of the puppets will send out multiple poison bombs. Next both puppets will launch an array of needles that pierce the opponent.
NOTE: Must know puppet jutsu

This is more or less a combination of the Endless Rain of Senbon and the Poison Smokescreen techniques, thus making it more useful in times where you're limited on the technique usage. You use Poison Smokescreen first, and follow up with Endless Rain of Senbon, but with using two puppets instead of one.
These are all the technqiues which are considered to be the general techniques, which any puppet may perform, regardless of the puppets you're using. There are a couple of exceptions to this, such as if the puppet specifies that it cannot use these techniques, but the chances of that are highly unlikely. I kind of decided to mix in the multiple puppet techniques in with this as they're all really the same, but with more puppets (remind me to change that for future students xD). These techniques really use the abilities of what's inside the puppet rather than using what the puppet's innate abilities are. They're all simple, and shouldn't be too hard to understand.

For this part, I would like for you to go over these techniques, and rearrange them in the order of usefulness. The first technique listed should be the one you find most beneficial in a fight, and the bottom should be what you find least beneficial. Also, I'd like for you to explain why you chose this order, as well as strengths and weaknesses for each technique.

Description: The user send out two puppets. One of the puppets will send out multiple poison bombs. Next both puppets will launch an array of needles that pierce the opponent.
NOTE: Must know puppet jutsu

This move is easily the most beneficial of the four. The move is two attacks in one but it will only be counted as one move so that is a positive right there. One weakness to this move is that the puppet user wont be able to see his opponent because of the poison smoke bombs. At this time the opponent can use a move like mole hiding in the ground or whatever its called and easily sneak up behind the puppet user and slit his throat with a kunai.

(Doku Kemuri) -Poison Smokescreen
Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The puppet will open its mouth and shoot out smoke balls that are imbued with poison as well. This can be used to obscure the enemy’s vision and to spread poisonous gas in the area at the same time.

I pick this move to be second because its very easy to pull off if you do it right and is very hard to avoid. Its a non physical wide spread move, so the only option your opponent have to avoid this move is by using a gust like wind attack. Just like the move above this one, your opponent can use mole hiding in the ground to pull off a sneak attack.

(Senbon Ame) - Endless Rain of Senbon
Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The puppet will open its mouth wide, unleashing a torrent of senbon. All of the senbon are poison-tipped, meaning that a single hit by one could be deadly. These senbon can shower the opponent for as long as the user wishes.

Even though you can fire the senbons continuously at your opponent, the fact is that your opponent can simply overpower these senbons by using a long range wide spread attack such as a fire jutsu that can not only disintegrate the senbons but set the puppet on fire and burn it to ashes.

This is the least beneficial because its a shield made out of chakra and we all know that raw chakra is weak to elemental ninjutsu. However, this move is shape manipulated, so that means its equal to elemental ninjutsu. Since its a C rank jutsu its not not gonna help you that much unless you're defending against ninja tools or basic moves.
