It's not the fact they end, it's the fact that someone has acknowledged you for exactly who you are and accepts you. Someone who you can spend time with and trust. Even if it's for a year, or even a few months, it's worth it. And when you do break up, that's if you do, it's good to know that you cared someone so much for those feelings.

It's an outdated custom that will and has been losing popularity. Just look at the number of relationships the average person would have in 1930 and the average a person has in this century. People have far more nowadays, so at what average number per person do they stop being relationship and start being hookups? If a girl gets with a hundred men in one year it's not 100 relationships is it? The ideal situation is a friend (without the prefix girl or boy in front) of whichever *** you prefer that you are attracted to and not controlling over. The only reasons people are controlling of there partners are reproduction and disease. If you address these concerns responsibly with condoms and other birth controls coupled with notorized contracts to provide support to any children you may sire with any partners then their is no reason everyone cannot have multiple partners safely.

well i've never been in a relationship but take this advice with some salt if you like:

the secret to a lasting relationship: communication, compromise and trust

if you are missing one of these three then its the couple's job to fill in the gap for what they lack

if no one wants to work towards happiness (ie. admit they are wrong when they fight, resolve things peacefully, act mature when the time calls for it, be a leader) then it just shows that one or both were not ready to commit themselves to be with each other till death do them part.

but like i said, this isn't for everyone
