the other day i was thinking about the effects of if a person bought an island or unclaimed piece of land and than paid for transport to bring in refugees, and than helped the refugees set up a system to live on. if that would piss people off or help. i wonder.

Yeah, Netherlands here, pretty small country.
Since the crisis, it's probably going to take even longer than normal for me to get an home of my own...
Oh well, further more i am not against immigrants, But i do have to say that they should not request our country to change for them.
that is all.

So...one told you he doesn't want your jacket, and you conclude most of them are ungrateful?

Sorry but that's not really convincing so far.

Anyway, alright, let's go with the narrative of them staying in Syria and solve their problems first.

Oh wait, that's what they tried to do...but you know, when they started protesting for more human rights and democracy, the gvmnt shut them down by force. In fact, Assad is accused of using indiscriminate weapons against civilians and should be convicted for war crimes. (Well, never mind that, some US politicians get away with such things too).

Point is, there are dozens of armed groups/militias fighting now. So. Which group do you suggest the refugees should join? Al-Nusra? ISIS? Or...the gvmnt that is led by a dictator...hmm?

(As for refugees from other countries like Iraq, Somalia or Afghanistan, things are not much better).

they voted for him again. :lmao:
There's a Syrian refugee in my class. He is very smart and he said that what we hear about Assad is lies. I'm assuming we have our own agenda in Syria.

I mean, first we're trying to oust their government by aiding rebels who Syrians felt strongly against, now we're trying to get rid of ISIS who was formed a lot by rebels.

1) I don't doubt it, but I'd like to see a statistics from this year.

2) Even so, it doesn't change the fact that he is a dictator having committed crimes against civilians.

3) Even so, of course he's still better than ISIS and the likes, so ofc people rather support him.

4) I never said they don't like him.

5) Okay? So you suggest people shold go back and fight for the Assad regime. Fine by me, now convince refugees :|

I'm not saying that, I'm saying what we hear about Assad may not be true. Obviously families would rather flee than fight.

Maybe. Of course I'm aware that there are other factors in play (f.e. the West supporting the Arab Spring against Assad. The movement failed, but the can of worms or call it Pandora's box, is opened.)

But my point simply was that people might not want to join the gvmnt either, fighting against their own breed.

I don't understand why some Europeans are always so xenophobic.

I agree with your point.

What if someone else, like a super power or something is messing up with their country and they can't do it themselves...
Shall they surrender to the tyranny of that someone...?

Earth belong to humans and all other living things inhabiting it... Those facing troubled times are fellow humans and either we should present a solution to their problems(duty of U.N.) or give them space until the trouble is cleared...

I agree. Many countries have fanned the flames of this situation. The US, Russia, some surrounding countries, etc., are all contributing to the destabilization of Syria. At the same time, innocent Syrians are between a rock and a hard place with an authoritarian regime and Islamic extremists. Then there is the fact that gulf states are not taking any refugees.

Personally, I think it should be the moral objective of the west to take in innocents trying to escape conflict.

In don't hate them , but i am against them.

The middle east can NEVER be in peace its a fact. You can't make it normal anymore there will always be war for all enternity.

You've 2 options.

A. Let the refugees in and do actually nothing then providing them food and shelter and people have to pay more taxes and work more , own kids can't even buy their own houses. Obviously more criminality because more people.

B. Take as many refugees from any middle east place to europe or america and blow up the whole middle east.
Then with the help of every country rebult middle east, and send them back

But ofcourse you can have enternal war there :hs: fine 2 i guess

Well, yeah...sadly, some Arab countries are also trying to use this conflict to further sunni vs shia enmity. Then there is US vs Russia rivalry...

But in any case, from Europe's pov, anyone fleeing from a war zone, shall be granted protection. Even if they support Assad, it doesn't mean they want to live in a war-torn country where their lives are endangered.

If the West was just trying to remove Assad based on false accusations and by supporting rebels, then all the more reason for the West to take responsibility and accept refugees.

Milton Friedman makes some great points about a very similar topic here.

The answer is no because we have limited resources. If you are the kind of person that won't fight tooth and nail for your home then I don't think you deserve a free out. Look at the Japanese in WWII and the north Vietnamese if you want good ecamples of those who'd fight for their home
