if you are reading fairy tail manga , watch its anime too , the anime is very well animated and the fights look even more badass than they do in the manga

If you don't mind a hint of mecha, try Gurren Lagann.

It starts off with the two main characters leaving the underground village to explore the world above, which is inhabited by Beastmen that have taken over. They eventually form their own group and fight to reclaim the surface.

Half-way through the series, there's a timeskip in which the main character has aged and built a massive futuristic city on the surface. A new antagonist group known as the Anti-Spirals threatens to wipe out the human race, and now the group has to defend themselves from a much stronger enemy than the Beastmen.

The story is absolutely epic, and the animation is fluid. It is a mixture of various genres packed into one, and it can be quite surreal near the end.

If that's not quite your cup-of-tea, give Darker Than Black a try. Plenty of action and an interesting backstory behind Hei. Things get really good near the end of Season 1.
I wouldn't recommend Season 2, though.

Btw, have you seen the Kabukicho Four Devas Arc in Gintama? I highly recommend that if you haven't already seen it. That was one of the best arcs imo. :)

When you tried FMA, was that the FMA and not the FMA Brotherhood? Many make the mistake of starting with the story which isn't derived from the manga, but the one with it's own original story.
It's the manga storyline that captured so many, not the one from the first anime.

If anything, Code Geass, it's an anime, very good IMO. edit: sorry, didn't notice you dropped Code Geass.. Uhm.. Then... Magi?

You seem to like highschool anime so how School Rumble? Its very funny. Its about a former delinquint guy who is in love with this silly girl who is in love with a spacy-alien looking guy.

Also,
Darker than Black-An assassin trying to leave his old life.
Black Butler-A rick emo kid who mad a contract with a demon(Sebastian) to be his butler in order to kill the people responsible for his parents death in exchange for his soul.

Samurai Champloo:

A young woman named Fuu is working as a waitress in a tea shop when she is harassed by a band of samurai. She is saved by Mugen, a mysterious rogue, and Jin, a young ronin. Mugen attacks Jin after he proves to be a worthy opponent and they begin fighting one another and inadvertently cause the death of Shibui Tomonoshina, the magistrate's son. For this crime they are to be executed. But with some help from Fuu, they escape, and Fuu asks them to travel with her to find "the samurai who smells of sunflowers."

I thought it was pretty awesome.

Deadman Wonderland!
Summary: A massive earthquake ravaged Japan's mainland and destroyed most of Tokyo, sinking three-quarters of the city into the ocean. Ten years later, the story shifts to Ganta Igarashi, a seemingly ordinary student attending Nagano Prefecture's middle school. As an escapee, a survivor of the great earthquake, Ganta has no memories of the tragedy and has lived a normal life. This all changes when a strange person covered in blood and crimson armor floats through his classroom windows. Grinning madly, the Red Man massacres Ganta's entire class but instead of killing him, embeds a red crystal shard in Ganta's chest. Within days of the massacre, Ganta is declared the sole suspect. Following a quick unfair trial, Ganta is sentenced to death and is incarcerated in Deadman Wonderland, a massive theme park-like prison.

Arriving at the prison, Ganta is fitted with a special collar which monitors his location and life signs. Due to the heinous nature of Ganta's "crime," he has to live out his imprisonment under Deadman Wonderland's 'Death Sentence'. A lethal poison is constantly injected into his bloodstream through the collar, but it can be neutralized by consuming a peculiar candy-like medicine every three days, which can be acquired through various activities in the prison, i.e. performing for audiences, working backstage, purchasing with cast points, etc. In order to gather Cast Points (the prison's currency), an inmate has to perform in the facility's lethal games and survive. Fortunately for Ganta, he is aided by a mysterious girl named Shiro, who apparently knows Ganta, and is known by other prisoners as well.

While trying to survive as an inmate on death row, Ganta becomes increasingly obsessed with the 'Red Man' and tries to find him so he could clear his name. In a bizarre twist, Ganta begins to develop the ability to manipulate his own blood, to the point of turning it into a weapon. Unbeknownst to him, Ganta has become one of the prison's "Deadmen," a segregated group of prisoners possessing the Branches of Sin which makes them capable of controlling their blood. After his ability is discovered, Ganta is forced to participate in brutal gladiatorial death matches known as Carnival Corpse, whose anonymous spectators pay large amounts of money to watch. In his struggle he manages to befriend some of those he fought off in the arena and with their help, Ganta continues his quest to uncover the identity of the Red Man, why he turned into a Deadman, and the dark secrets the prison authorities are hiding.

Samurai Champloo is amazing. The animations is excellent, the fights are very well done, the story is overall awesome. There are some fillers but not many as the show is a mini-series.

Also, Afro Samurai is great. If you don't feel like watching the beginnings of the show, just skip to the Resurrection arc. The animation is great and so is the story. Warning: very, very, bloody.

Fantastic animation. It's about a boy that hunts Akuma (but in this one those Akuma are evolving machines that posses the trouble souls as fuel). I hadn't watch much yet, but I'm enjoying it a lot.
