*Appears using Shunshin*

Hmm, such a beautiful place, perfect for our training but unfortunate to the environment. Now I'll be using the methods of training I've been taught in by my sensei. So to begin, I want you to explain a few concepts that are essential for anybody to understand.

Shinobi/Kunoichi
Taijutsu
Genjutsu
Ninjutsu
Chakra
Five Elements

Relationships:

I want you to explain these in your own words to the best of your abilities. For the last one, relationships, I want you to tell me how each of those concepts relate to one another. All of those concepts can be tied together so I want to see how you would do that.

Shinobi: also known as a ninja (the main focus of Naruto) they will usually come from a hidden village or from ninja clans and do missions (like item delivery and area defense) for pay. these ninjas can use Jutsu (translation skills/techniques) and tools (like kunai and shurikens)

Taijutsu: a hand to hand technique (literally means Body Techniques) this style does not require chakra or hand seals but, chakra can be used to strengthen technices.

Genjutsu: are an illusion technique (Literally means Illusionary techniques) that usually require chakra and hand seals. its primary objective is to, instead of attacking the victim like taijutsu or ninjutsu, it uses chakra to disrupt the victims sense (if im correct)

Ninjutsu: (Literally means ninja techniques) refers to any technique used to incapacitate or injure the victim. unlike genjutsu, the effects of ninjutsu are real. They vary greatly in purpose, the simpler ninjutsu serves such tasks as transforming the user or allowing them to evade attacks.

Chakra: the main energy source of most ninja techniques. it is the moulding of the physical energy and spiritual energy. Once moulded, it can be concentrated throughout the body via the chakra circulatory system. after which it can manipulated into various forms to cause various effects. the most common method of manipulation is through hand seals.

Five elements: The 5 basic elements are Earth, Fire, Water, Wind and Lightning. Every Shinobi has the ability to utilise one or more of these styles. each element can causes different effects (Ex. fire burns, lightning paralyzes)

Relationship: Ninjutsu, Genjutsu and Taijutsu are all techniques used by Shinobi. ninjutsu and genjutsu both require chakra to work. taijustu does not require chakra but can use chakra to strengthen it. Most Shinobi can use the 5 basic elements to aid in battle.

did i do alright??

You did fair, there's a lot of gaps though.

Shinobi/Kunoichi: Shinobi and Kunoichi are those who practice the art of Ninjutsu. In order not to confuse, I'll keep this in terms of the RP and in the Narutoverse. Generally you'll see shinobi from villages, clans, or solo. Shinobi in villages act as military soldiers and they carry out tasks for the village for payment. There are clans within villages (outside as well) and generally clans protect secret techniques, fighting styles, and or Kekkei genkai which are genetic based techniques. Solo shinobi may be from clans they may have trained indiviually but they may have also once been a part of a clan or village and have defected for breaking the village/clan laws. However the idea behind shinobi is that they are warriors who practice the arts of ninjutsu for whatever reason. They have their own philosophies, desires, ambitions, goals, motives, etc. They dedicate their training to something and as such depends on how they act. Traditionally shinobi are warriors that do what they're told without hesitation and without question. However shinobi are sentient beings capable of thinking for themselves. There are traditions that are to be upheld but you can't hold everybody to the same exact standards, which is why there are varrying personalities and tendencies of different shinobi and, often enough, reasons why some shinobi are defects.

Taijutsu: Though you are right that it's hand to hand combat, you are wrong that it doesn't require chakra. Taijutsu doesn't require chakra in the same sense as Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, taijutsu utilizes chakra in the sense of one's physicality. Their power, speed, endurance, physical feats all of this utilizes chakra. Taijutsu (in the general sense) doesn't require one to mold chakra as one would do in nin or genjutsu, but they use the physical properties (primairly yang) to push their limits of strength, speed, and endurance. The way shinobi find themselves exhausted after using multiple ninjutsu or genjutsu techniques is the same for how they become exhausted using taijutsu, they're using their energy.

Genjutsu: Genjutsu=illusion based techniques, techniques that attack the mind rather than the body. My personal favorite style of fighting (highly underrated in the RP) as I believe destruction of the mind is the most dangerous key. If you can control a person's mind, you can control them. The brain is the control center, the function of your entire body. It even controls your physical being if you think about it. If you destroy the brain, you destroy your opponent. You're opponent can't do anything without the mental capacity to think, even reflexes and impulses are controled by the brain. My point being, as genjutsu attacks the brain, it attacks perhaps the most vital point in you're body. You can render your opponent insane, cause them incredible amounts of pain without harming their body directly, torment their mind in various other ways. Mental incapability is just as, if not more affective than physical incapability. You are right about how gen works though, it disrupts the flow of chakra to the brain to allow the user to manipulate it to cause varrying affects.

Ninjutsu: Refers to a few things. As you said they are Ninja Techniques...however what specifically are ninja techniques? Don't Ninja use taijutsu and genjutsu as well? Ninjutsu refers to the ways of combat practiced by shinobi, just as Bushido and Iiado are the ways of the samurai (Bushido being a term like Chivalry, an honor code not necessarily a fightin style). In the terms of specifics ninjutsu utilizes chakra to create tangible affects as you said, but they can be for attack, defense, counter, or supplementary purposes alike. Ninjutsu like everything else requires chakra. You mould chakra to create the tangible affects.

Chakra: Is the life source of all living things. Everything from people, animals, and anything in nature poesses energy. To focus primarily on the Chakra instead of getting into Nature energy, Chakra is the equivalent to Xing (Japanese)/Chi (Chinese). It's inner energy and it's ballanced by physical and spiritual properties. Every form of jutsu (Tai, Nin, Gen) utilize both Physical and Spiritual chakra. Lets talk on Physical first. Physical chakra within Taijutsu refers to what I said earlier, strength, endurance, speed, and general physical properties. You're physically exerting your body and that requires chakra. In Genjutsu, believe it or not, you're physically using your chakra to disrupt chakra in the brains of your opponent. Though the affects are illusion based you exert physical use your chakra to channel it to your opponent to cause them illusions that affect the sense. See how that works? In Ninjutsu, as I said, it creates the tangible affects of the specific techniques. Now for spiritual, more difficult to understand the relationship between of spiritual chakra and Taijutsu, but not impossible. Physical discipline, pain thresholds. Look at Yondaime Raikage A, the man who cut off his own arm and didn't bat an eyelash. I practice martial arts and I understand the underlying affects of that. Through mentally calming and balancing yourself you can regulate pain in the sense of how it affects you. Shinobi can fight through pain and that is how spiritual chakra translates to taijutsu, mental balance and controling pain. For Genjutsu, the Spiritual chakra (Yin) comes from the affecting the mind. Once you have disrupted your opponents's chakra the spiritual affects that deal with the mind kick in. The second Mizukage professed his skills as a Yin Release User which meant Genjutsu so essentially the balance between Yin and Yang for Genjutsu is primarily Yin. For Ninjutsu you need the actual affects of what you're bringing into reality. You use the imagination/mind to concept the technique and then exert it physically and create tangible affects.

5 Elements: The Five elements or five nature releases are chakra within your body that hold to a specific element. The basics are Water, Fire, Earth, Wind, Lightning. Shinobi have a primary affinity, a nature chakra that is stronger within them then the others. Through training shinobi can learn to unlock and master other elements. Though it's a more difficult feat to accomplish. That being said, the more elements a shinobi possess mastery over generally means that shinobi is skilled because of the time, effort, and discipline they must of endured in order to master the other elements. The Five elements also have relationships to each other in the cycle of strengths and weaknesses (Example: Wind<Fire<Water). They also have relationships in conjunction and unity with one another to create various other affects (Example: Wind+Fire=Stronger Fire | Fire+Water=Boiling Steam)

Relationship: Now, I've already explained the relationships between all of these entities more or less. You explained a more shallow interpritation. I mean shallow as in not as deep but that isn't a bad thing. To spare you the time to read another wall of mine, you can pretty much understand how all of these things relate to one another. In my terms I explained everything mainly around chakra as it's the source of what defines life. There's chakra in everything anybody does, but even more so for a shinobi.

Now before we press on, are there any questions, things you don't understand, don't agree with, was I clear enough?

No question. I'm Good

No questions huh, alright then we'll proceed onwards.

Now, I want you to tell specifically about Katon as a nature. Think of everything you possibly know about fire both in relation to the Narutoverse and in the real. Explain to me in the following ways.

  • What is Katon:
  • How Does this Nature Act:
  • What is Required For this Nature:
  • Relationships to other 4 Natures:

Remember my emphasis on underlying meanings. To understand an element you must think about how something works in conjunction with things around it and sometimes think about other things on a tangent to understand the main something. xd Does that make sense?

Katon/Fire is one of the 5 Basic elements of Ninjutsu. It is a force that can burn objects and people.

Katon acts...like a fire. it is a hot substance that will burn things in its path. it burns brightly and hot.

Katon requires you to mold your chakra into a super heated form inside your stomach, then releasing it from your mouth.

Katon is strong to Wind because wind will spread the fire and make it bigger
Katon is weak to Water because water can put out a flame
Katon is neutral to Earth and Lightning

Is that Alright. Sorry if it seems weak its my first training.

Katon or Fire Release is the nature element of Fire. As the name suggest this nature allows the person to manipulate the nature chakra (Fire) within them to create fire. You focus on the nature chakra and then release the chakra in the form of fire in the desired specifics of the technique. As Katon is one of the five natures, it constitutes as "Nature Manipulation" when you use this chakra. You can combine Nature Manipulation with Shape Manipulation to give shape to the fire for varrious affects like Dragons, spiders, balls, etc..

When you see a fire, how does it act? Take a forest fire for example. How does it start? It starts as an innitial fire and spreads correct? Fire spreads, it's alive. Fire is powerful, fast, destructive, and it spreads around it's environment. Thinking in Chemestry terms, heat is generated by rapid fast motion, kinetic energy. Fire is a fast and difficulty controled element.

Now this question is supposed to go hand in hand with the above question. What you need in terms of how you would theoretically control and manipulate the fire chakra inside you. Keeping in mind that the nature of fire is what you're creating, manipulating, and expelling, you need to think Fire: Fast, powerful, spreading, hot, energetic. That is what you're creating do you understand? So when you're focusing on creating a fire technique you channel your chakra from your core, focus on the aspects and properties of fire which is essential if you're to manipulate it correct?

Now for this last quesion, again you do a shallow interpritation to the relationships. If you read and remembered what I wrote about the concepts in terms of the elements. Yes they have strengths and weaknesses but they also have valuable methods of conjuctive uses. You're thinking of: Fire vs. <inserte other element here> but not Fire+<insert other element here>. Yes Fire is weak to Water because water douses the fire but when fire and water clash, what do they make? Steam correct? Steam/water vapor. You're mixing high tempature water with the abilities to burn your opponent. Fire+Water are the roots of the Mizukage's Kekkei genkai remember? You saw how dangerous it was right? You have the ability to do that as well. Not in the same way as Mei where she can create steam but you can combine two elemental techniques to create a new type of element or a brand new affect all together. You see what I mean? Think of how the other elements can work in conjunction with one another.
________________

Since you are new, before we proceed onwards I'm going to give you some study material that I would like for you to read. This is to give you some better understanding of the RP and how to think about things more indepth

These two threads explain the relationships between elements. I want you to answer these question for me before we proceed.

1) Three Elemental Combinations that produce another element affect (For example Water+Fire=Boiling Steam.)

2) Two Mid-Ranged Techniques=What Range?

3) Name 3 Ways to create an S-rank Technique (For example: To Create an A-ranked technique you can: B-rank+B-rank or C-Rank+B-rank)

4) B-rank Lightning>A-rank ?element

This is for a better understanding of Elements. Read through the threads and post answers. If you have any questions about my explinations above or anything at all ask.

All correct, just one more thing before we this goes any further. When you battle in the RP description and detail is important. What I mean is, you must explain your move as clarly as possible to make sure there are as controversy as possible. I'm not saying you have to be a person who writes a wall of text (like myself) but be detailed.

For me, I write ridiculous walls when I'm in an debate in the Naruto Discussions or as you see here when I'm training (I did this with my sensei...writting a lot that is, not teaching, that was there job :p). However when I fight, I don't use extreme wall of text but maybe a few lines in a paragraph like you see with this post. This is to make my point clear and also it gives life and a better sense of actually role play.

There are some people who say "I use <Insert technique here> and then I do <insert another technique here>" and so on and so forth. Some techniques and situations require a little effort in describing. I'm just saying, find a balance when you describe. You may be a little redundant sometimes but that's alright. Just don't try to over do it or underdo it. Just be in the middle

So with your answers from here on out try to be a little more detailed. You'll have to think a little but that's how you get good at this stuff. Thinking about how things work, how to go about certian situations, how to be tricky and sneaky :zonder: all that good stuff :p

Questions?

Alright, lets start playing with Fire.

*I focus on my Katon chakra and I emitt a large, powerful stream of fire in a moderate radius around you. The flames climb high almost blocking your vision of me. The heat resonates all around you as you begin to sweat in the center of the fire.*

Alright, I want you to sit. Remember what I told you just a moment ago and about fire. Sit and meditate. Think about the fire around you, how it's making you feel. Think about your own fire nature inside your body. Associate how you feel with the fire around you to the fire chakra deep inside your core. For you to use the element within your body, you must first feel that element resonate throughout your body. Describe how the fire makes you feel and how the fire chakra feels inside your body and finally, describe how to associate the two.

*Lays on the grass* I'm gonna take a nap, see you when you're finished.

You're still being vague, I may be sounding like a perfectionist but it's for your own good. Go back through my posts with everything I've told you about fire how it acts. You keep saying "I feel...I feel" Well what do you feel? Just heat? There is more to fire than heat. You must understand. I've said it before. Describe for me a little better than this. I understand you feel the heat, now what else do you feel. Use metaphors, compare the properties of fire to your being, to your Fire Chakra inside your body.

*Feels the heat of the flames begin to flare, opens up one eye* -_o.....0_0

Oh damn! *Sees the fire corresponding with your breathing, rising as you inhale, lowring as you exhale* You're ready my friend.

That's what I'm talking about! ;) Keep that up.

*I cancel the fire around you* Stand up and come next to me. We're going to be using the method of my teacher and my teacher's teacher...my teacher's teacher being the one who's senpai I'm becoming 0_o that make sense? Forget it. This method is different from the traditional Technique Rank latter that is used, although since you're new to training it won't affect you as much.

Method 1: Basic Projectiles
Method 2: Fire Streams/Constant Fire
Method 3: Alternative Releases (Ash, Gas, etc)
Method 4: Specific/Combos

As you can see, there are four categories, each category pertains to the properties of the techniques within this element. There are projectiles, streams and constants, different means of Katon, and very specific techniques and combinations.

How you'll be taught is: I will first give you the demonstration of how techniques in each category works, and you will imitate my actions. After you get one category down, I'll give you the list of technqiues within that category.
___________________
I'll be adding a little of my own touch to this method which I feel is important. At the end of each category, after I post the techniques, I want you to follow this template:

Advantage(s) To this Method:
Disadvantage(s) to this Method:
2-3 Technique Combination using the techniques you've learned.

What this is meant to do is to show you how to fight with your techniques logically and intelligently, show you how to defeat them as you are not the only person with these techniques, and to give you some simulation battle experience. Since you're new to the RP, when the time comes for you to need to do all this, I will give you an example to show you what I want.

Now do you have any questions about what we will be doing or what I'll be asking you to do?

No, only the method. Here's why; each method was made because there are several techniques that have the same basic foundation with only slight differentiations that would make them considered different techniques. So, instead of teaching you one technique after another, having you preform the same general aspect several different times, I will teach you the basic method of how each technique in the category works. You can add that little sliver of flavor that makes it different for each of the techniques. Get it?

Keeping the above statement in mind, if every technique is so with only sight variation, that would mean there is the same advantages and disadvantages to each technique in the categories. So it would be unnecessarily redundent for you to do it for every technique in the section right? If there are any significant differences in any technique within a category I will fill it in for you myself.

Anything else?

Alright then.

Now I'm sure you know what projectiles are, weapons that are launched through the air at a disired target. What this first method entails is Katon techniques that are essentially projectiles. You channel your Fire chakra into a specific point in the body and you release the technique in the specific manor it's detailed in and the rest is history.

Keep that in mind and watch what I do and I want you to imitate it (do the same thing but use your own words)

*I begin by inhaling deep from my diaphram, focusing on my Katon chakra in my core. I channel my chakra from my core up into my mouth. From there I spew my chakra from my mouth, manifesting it into pure fire. As it leaves my mouth and heads out in front of me, I use shape manipulation and the fire comes out in a fairly large ball. The ball of fire travels out a short distance from me before it falls to the ground and disperses in flames*

Got it? Now noticing what I've done *Creates a Lightning clone short range from us* Do the same thing and aim your fireball at my lightning clone.
