Well, I'm pretty new here, but I thought I might write something just to build rep or something. This story takes place in the modern world, but doesn't involve the characters in the manga. Well, hope you like it, if you do, I'll continue, if you don't, I won't. Simple, right?
Prologue
I'll be straightforward in introducing myself. My name is Nick Light, and I'm sixteen years old. My life is a pretty normal one on the outside. I get good grades. My parents are complete butts. I have a girlfriend I love. But on the inside, there's stuff going on I can't explain.
For one thing, I can somehow climb trees with my feet, stand upside down, or even walk on water. This is definitely not normal.
I've been able to do this since the age of six. And this has been a secret to everyone. I find it extremely fascinating, but also extremely scary. I know that if someone could see me doing these kinds of things, some scientists would do all sorts of experiments on me, or something. I don't want this to happen.
The weirdest thing I can do? Once, I was swimming in the beach, and I found I could manipulate water with my hands without my hands getting soaked. It was the weirdest thing. I stopped and got out of the water as soon as I could, feeling scared. I can still do it, if I concentrate.
I hoped I could still lead a normal life, even with all these abnormalities. I never went to my parents about this, but after ten years of wondering what this was about, I finally steeled my nerves and went up to them on that Sunday night.
"Dad?" I called into the library. My father is a water life researcher, who studies fish and goes down into the water and stuff like that, but I was never into biological stuff like that. We have an enormous library in the basement full of books about water life.
"Yes, Nick?" he asked.
He came walking up the stairs and grinning towards me. You don't have to, I told myself. But I needed to. These secrets had been killing me.
"Dad...I want to tell you something," I said.
"What...did you get a girl pregnant?" he asked, suppressing a smile.
I blushed, and said, "No, nothing like that. I meant...I can do these odd things..." I mumbled.
He stared at me, and for a fleeting second, there was a gleam of panic in his eyes. However, it was gone when I blinked, and I thought I had imagined it. "What do you mean?" he asked, but his voice sounded serious. Dead serious.
I was now afraid, but I didn't want to back down. "Look...I'll show you," I said.
We live in a big house near the beach. The beach is a short distance away, and we have a boat for my dad's fishing and water life research. "Let's go out into the ocean," I suggested.
My dad looked serious, but he agreed and we went pretty far out. I took a deep breath, and said, "Dad, look at this."
I steeled my nerves and walked out of the boat, and put strength into my feet. I was walking on water, for the first time in five years, and my dad looked at me with definite panic this time. "Dad?" I asked.
I got nervous, and wondered if this had been a bad idea. Then I realized he wasn't panicking at me, and was staring at something behind me. A man running towards us. On the water. Just like me.
My father said, hurriedly, "Nick, you better get back in here..."
But I waited for the figure to come closer. As he did, I saw something shiny in his hand. Was that a knife? No...it had an odd shape.
I was confused, but oddly, I wasn't scared. This man could walk/run on water too; would he relate to what I could do?
However, when he was still a good fifty yards away from us, he leaped, and landed straight on our boat. I gasped, and my father's face turned dead serious, and he made odd signs with his hands. He then yelled out, "Ice Style, Frozen Ice Dome!"
Suddenly, I found myself surrounded by a huge dome of ice, with my father's hands connected to it. The man I could see now, had a mask on, showing his eyes only. He had a headband with four lines and a slash through it which looked quite odd. He was tall and beefy, and then I saw his eyes for the first time.
They were bright red, with a comma sign on the top, and one on the bottom left and the bottom right hand corners. They were frightening, but mesmerizing as well. My dad yelled, "Nick, don't stare at his eyes!"
The man looked at us as if interested, and then made more weird hand signs like my father had, and then yelled in a gruff voice, "Fire Style: Flaming Fists!"
His fists had ignited with fire, and my eyes widened. How did he do that? I was so surprised at his hands that I was frozen in shock. He punched the ice barrier, and my dad grunted. He let go, and made another hand sign. "Ice Style: Great Icicle Barrage!"
From the water, a huge icy spike rose, and my father raised his hand. The spike obeyed his command, and my father turned to me, with a look that said Run!, and pointed at the man. The spike lunged at him just as the barrier broke because of the man's blazing punches, and I ran. I ran with unnatural speed, but I didn't care how odd it was. I felt like a coward, running, but my father had looked so scared. I ran to the beach, and kept running, all the way home, to the safety of my mother.
