Rebel's Crown:
The Magician and The Thief
Chapter 1
"You're wasting your time..." The cloaked figure sighed. The second man was knelt infront of a roadside altar to the Goddess of Weaponry, Pie, and Love.
"I don't hear that when your praying to that Heathen Thief you call a god." The kneeling male muttered. "Besides, the Goddess, Emiko, tends to listen to her followers. Or so the legends say." He finished waving his hand over a steaming, cherry pie and stood up.
"I hope you get struck by lightining," The cloaked man said,"Are you done at this thing now?"
The second man stood. "Yes, we can leave now. And for the record the Goddess Hime controls the lightining and weather, and I have spoken no ill of her."
"Drako, You and this religious stuff. Were you raised in a temple or something? sheesh." The cloaked man yawned.
"I supposed you only believe in the Heathen you call a god?" Drako asked pulling the hood of his bage cloak up.
"That would be correct. You and the rest of your entities can go to hell," The man said, slipping his hands in his pockets as they walked down the stone paved road.
They contiuned walking forward in silence. Stopping at a crossroads. And turning on the left road, headed towards the captial city, Alkalai.
"Shichi," Drako asked glancing over. As they strolled.
"What?" The other man, Shichi, answered.
"It would be impossible for a god or goddess to burn in Hell becuase the God of Hell is Starkma," Drako muttered.
"Drako,"
"Yes?"
"I hate you."
"No you don't," Drako countered.
Shichi, sighed, reaching down to fix the sword that hung from his hip. Not the most oportune weapon for a thief. But it was the best weapon to carry while traveling across a country that consisted of mostly forest.
The two adventurers where outfitted like normal passerbys. Except, they both held a secret that would have them excuted on the spot if it were found out.
"How much longer until we reach it?" Shichi, a common thief from a small town on the border, asked his compainion.
Drako stopped to look at the sun glowing overhead.
"Two hours, if the Gods bless us, we'll make it by one and a half," He answers contiuning on at a non suspecious pace.
"Shit." Came the reply from his cloaked compainion.
"What?" Drako asked, knowing not to glance up. Fore it ment trouble.
"Two guards. Horseback." Shichi whispered, pulling the cloak tighter around him.
"Keep walking."
"Got it."
The horses came to a slowing halt beside the two seemingly ordinary civians. One of the horses nayed. The two travelers contiuned to stare at their feet.
"Awefully warm to be wearing such heavey cloaks, isn't it lads?" One of the guards asked. His voice ruff with accent of the Mountain countries.
"Yes sir," Shichi answered. Letting the accent of his youth slip into his voice.
"Then why are you wearing it?" Peeked up the other guard. His gear rattling as the horse swapped it's weight from one foot to the other.
Drako glanced up. Locking eyes with the guard for a mere second.
"Jiwon" He whispered.
The horse nayed again. This time raising it's front legs off the ground, throwing it's owner off onto the paved road.
A sickening crack rang throughout the forest. The world slowed down. Everything was silent for a mere second as the guard's back hit the ground. His spine breaking on impact.
"Gods Above!" The second guard yelled, scrambling off his horse to help his fallen comrade.
Shichi swept his cloak aside. Branishing a dagger. The blade ten inches long. He rushed forward and slammed it into the gurad's hip. Curving upward and digging the blade into the man's spine.
"Two men dead becuase of us. What the hell did you do to that horse anyway?" Shichi span around, flicking blood from the knife, before sliding it back into it's covered sheath.
Drako reached up and grabbed the reins of the first stallion. He leaned in and whispered something into it's neck. The animal calmed almost instantly. Throwing the reins over the horse's back, Drako climbbed into the saddle.
"Not all weapons are made of steel, Shichi. And I told you. Sometimes, Her Goddess, Emiko, answers prayers. Now get on the horse." He said. Mornovering the stallion to turn around. So that it would face the correct route to the Capitail.
"Get on the horse?" Shichi echoed from were he was kneeling over the soldier he had stabbed. Checking the uniform's pockets for anything of value.
"What's the matter, Thief, do you suddenly have morals?" Drako taunted from atop his stead.
"Nope," Shichi stood, rattling a small coin purse infront of his face. "Just for the record. His God, The Great Thief, also occasionally answers prayers."
Shichi climbed onto the horse.
"The bodies?" Drako asked.
"Leave them for the crows," Shichi answered. Pulling his cloak hood up.
With their newly aquired steads the two set out for their the target. The Capatail city of Alkali.
..........
Meanwhile in a world that is unconceivable to mere humans. A marble palace lay shining in the center of a heavenly garden. Flowers from all corners of the Earth bloomed in the grassy maze.
In the middle of the palace a pool of liquid gold set still. Unmoving. Untoched by wind or time. A tanned hand swept across the top, grazing the liquid lightly. Although none of it moved.
A soft whisper broke the silence of the gardens. The language of it's content. Unknown to all but the Gods.
Slowly a whirlpool opened in liquid. Gradually it spread to the edges of the pool. Leaving what used to be gold, a now glassed over top. That reflected a forest through it.
In the forest lay two bodies. And two other cloaked figures riding away on horses.
The hand started to wave back over the glass. But it was stopped by another. The invader's hand slowly slipped it's finger's into the other's. Intriwining them.
"Interfering with the mortals again, Emiko?" A voice asked softly. The first hand pulled back a little. The invader's hand letting it go. It retracted back to it's owner. A dark haired woman. Sitting on a couch of soft valvet.
"You know I like to keep my follower's intrested..." The woman smiled teasingly.
The invader, another woman, her skin darker then the first. But they both shared the same dark hair. Crossed her arms.
"You seem to have taken a likening to the dark skinned one." The second woman said. Pouting a little.
"You're jealous." The first, The Goddess Emiko, accused.
"Maybe." The second answered.
"Well don't be. He prayed for protection. So I shall provide what I can to him." Emiko tried to sooth her compainion. She patted the seat beside her. Motioning for the other goddess to sit. "Now sit down and watch the rebel's story unfold, Akira."
The second woman, The Goddess of Pureness and Spring, Akira sat beside her.
"Speaking of rebels, have you heard of the upraising of the lower gods?" Akira asked.
"Uprisings?" Emiko question, her attenion taken away from the reflective glass for a bit.
"Yes, and sooner or later we'll have to pick a side...."
