Chapter 2
The sun drenched walls of Alkali, the capital city, lay in the center of Tanngo Plains. Once white, the walls were now sun bleached and a pale yellow. Glowing like a large gold ingot on the green plains. The walls rising serval hundred feet high. A gap every fifty feet with opening gushing water out into the moute that surrounded the city.
"You know, they say the city was built by the Gods in the Days of Old," Drako said, glancing out the corner of his eye at his compainion.
"To bad it's being destoried by this damned 'industriblization'." Shichi commented. Starring at the large metal pipes that wrapped around the walls of Alkali. Tainting the yellow with an ugly rusted brown.
"I agree," Drako muttered. Pulling the reins of his horse forward onto the beaten grass path that lead to the main gate.
"Did you know-" Drako began.
"Yes, I know that a stone path can't be laid becuase once the stones are implanted into the ground, they become to heated for anything to step foot on." Shichi finished.
"Ah, some think it is the will of the Gods," Drako contiuned. "But most modern scientist think that the direct heat waves from the sun simply hit the stones."
"Whatever," Shichi said loudly. Pushing his horse forward towards the manors that lay outside the walls. Most of the estates belonged to arositocrats who thought themselves to good to be trapped inside the city.
They arrived at the giant gates. Two large griffons made of lead paralelled the entrance way. Legend says they were supposed to protect the city from intruders. But that was just a myth in modern times.
A guard stood to the left of the huge gate. His halberd laying lazyily against the wall. He quickly dragged himself to attention as our adventurers approached.
"Open the gate!" The soldier, wearing the blue and glilded armor of the King, called up to a soldier hidden at the back of a guard house.
With a mechnical hiss one of the large pipes protruding from the wall let out a gush of steam. The giant doors slowly started to ease open. The wood creaking against the metal hinges.
Kicking the side of the horse lightly, the two travelers pushed forward into the city. Bustling crowds walked through the cramped streets. Shouting rang out, childern laughing, merchants haggling with customers.
It was the enibodiment of a modern city.
"Well lets go," Shichi muttered, urging his horse to move. Hestitently the animal walked forward. Drako's horse trailed behind by a few steps.
"Yes, but we should get rid of the horse inside the walls," He said, only loud enough for the thief infront of him to hear.
Shichi nodded in approval.
A few yards down the crowded street a building loomed over the others.
"'The Iron Torch Inn'," Shichi muttered as he climbed off his horse. Tying the rein to a post. "This is the place."
Drako jumped down from his own stead. Pulling the hood up his cloak down. "I agree."
They both walked to the door. Opening it and disappearing inside.
......
Across the street from the inn. A man, dark, shining hair hanging to his shoulders. Dressed in a brown suit. A glided purple cape hanging over his shoulder. His eyes glowing an unatural blue.
The man press a cigar to his lips, before pulling it away and blowing smoke into the air. As the smoke faded into the atmosphere the man pushed himself from the wall.
Once again pressing the cigar to his lips. The man started towards the end at a steady pace.
.......
The maze bushes parted and died as the dark skinned man walked forward. Leaving burnt brown patches of dead grass as he walked. A forest green mist dripping from his skin like liquid. Hitting the ground and melting everything it touched like acid.
"You dare interfere with my creations, you bastards!?" He called out to the giant marble door.
Said door opened instantly. Slamming against the wall behind it. Two Goddess's appeared in the doorway. Their white robes nearly blending in with the marble. While the other man's light green clothes clashed with the outside hues.
"Watch the tone of your voice, Hatako!" The Goddess, Emiko, yelled back at the other.
The man across the field, Hatako, God of Animals and Decay, hissed in displeasure. His voice memicing the sound of snakes.
"Who gave you permission to interfere with my creations!?" He yelled again. The liquid mist sliding down his arm, and gathering into his palm. He lifted his hand and threw the dark orb across the garden.
"Heathens!" Hatako yelled as the grass around him contiuned to swirlve and die.
The Goddess, Akira, held up her hand as the glowing orb rushed them. Her other arm came up to protect Emiko.
.....And Cliffhanger......
