Its actually quite simple, its coz kishi suddenly decided to erase previous hypes and statements like the hyuuga are the strongest of the leaf.
The only improvement neji got in shipuden was air palm. Thats all. Neji was arguably the strongest genin of his time and kishi forgot to develop him, same way he forgot to improve sakura from the start of shippuden. (when he decided to have a new 3 way deadlock he suddenly decides to give sakura tsunade's dimond. She simply got more physical strength, but according to 649 she sucks @ medical ninjutsu or rather still has a long way to catch up 2 tsunade)

kishimoto probably realised how much he deviated from his original ideas, and in an effort to avoid returning to his original plot, he simply kills off neji, the genious of the hyuga, whose bloodline was stronger than the main branch. So when ppl get the kyuubi's chackra cloak he doesnt have to exaggerate neji's powering up. I mean if hinata could deflect the juubi's tail/hand with a air palm, imagine what neji would be able to do? Also when everyone suddenly got stronger, eg kiba with kage bushin (wtf reall?) ino shika chou playing yoyo (this was ridiculous hahaha a total waste of choji really), shino with his freaky flesh eacting bugs (cool) (ten ten didnt improve? Kishi is a fool) hinata learning 64 strikes (gosh it took her long enough) and having her twin lion fists grow so big and beautiful (that looked epic. Gotta love her) and i dont remember who else did what, he couldnt really think of a new power for neji. So what was the solution? If u said kill him the u r a genius (well, not really, after all this is what we were getting to XD).

Kishi is suddently changing facts he had established earlier on in the manga, because he made some characters a bit too powerfull, so he had to make the pre shippuden hokages even more powerfull.
In pre shippuden hizuren clearly states that hashirama and tobirama's powers had not wanned one bit. They were @ their max then, but suddenly hashi is a demigod that shits on preshippuden hizuren. If tobirama had used teleportation jutsu on hizuren and marked him in their fight hizuren wud have been fodderised. Suddenly all the kage (exluding tsunade) can create kagebushin (well hashi uses mokubushin). If tobirama had created even 1 kagebushin when fighting hizuren he wud hav killed him quite easily. Also i really dont see how tobirama got killed by 25 jounin if he had teleportation jutsu plus kage bushin plus edotensei.

Orochimaru clearly stated that hizuren was god of the shinobi in part 1, but suddenly its hashirama? These sudden twists and changes are not in harmony with part 1 and really shudnt have been made. In part 1 the fourth hokage was spoken of as the greatest of the kage, and was praised for fighting the kyuubi. We actually learn that this wasnt such a feat as hashi easily dealt with the biju and treated them like pets.

And so for his mistakes and failuires some characters had to be sacrifised, and neji was regretebly one of them. Also i really dont see how sakura can stand next to base naruto or base sasuke as these are still stronger than her. Kishi shud have really thot of a better powerup for her, or just killed her like he did neji.

No, just no.

No... no...no..

Neji's death was arguably the least uncalled for and worst in the Manga at his given point in time.

Gonna read the rest of that, but this is pretty much it. You hit the nail right on the head. Kishi would have to address this shit later, and he doesn't seem up to it.

I have to say this is quite an interesting theory. It makes a lot of sense as well. While its sad and I wish it wasn't true I am sure it is. While some aspects of the manga I get into it. I try not to look to far into why the writer does everything he does. I think a reason you left out for Neji dying is also he needed a main character thats been a part of the manga from day 1 to be sacrificed and well Nenji in my opinion had the biggest impact.

You're joking right?

If the only improvement Neji had since Part 1 was Hakke Kushou, then he wouldn't raise dramatically from a Genin to a Jounin. His general skills had improved greatly since his Genin days, just look at Hakkeshou Kaiten he used in the War Arc, its size was on par with Hiashi.

Overall, It was a troll death. It wasn't for the hype mistakes, as they have nothing to do with it, that was just opinion anyway, as such tripe was stated quite recently too.

i agree that a main character had to be sacrificed, and there really shud have been more deaths (maybe rock lee, tenten, akatsuchi (i am not a hater of team ten)) but neji died prematurely, before he was improved.

i bet you only read the first paragraph and were in a trolling frenzy, so there is not point in arguing here

Actually he became the symbol of freedom and the inspiration to fight back against overwhelming odds such as the juubi. The metaphor of the bird flying freely in the first part of Naruto transcends to the war arc quite nicely. Without his death the shnobi war would've been finished much sooner and the infinite tsukuyomi wouldve enveloped the world.

Also Showing the idea of "you can't escape you destiny" by killing Neji off for a main family member. ****ed up. Really is.
haha, you must be a rock lee fan that secretly believed that neji>lee, so when neji died u were relieved and happy. Lol

No TheEvilOne does not like both Lee and Neji.
And Lee and Neji are my faves it does not matter who is stronger than who. They were equals btw; Neji accepted him as his rival therefore equal as seen in flashbacks in 617.

Another reason Neji died was so that Hinata could get more character development.

No one cares for him.Additionally he is as relevant for the plot as Udon.

Your theory seems good. But kishi has his good reasons and finally no one is perfect

Neji should not have died.
Or at least have a decent death.
