Sympathy? There's a time and place for everything. This reeks of the nonsense people do on Twitter and Facebook, like post pictures of food and update people on every little shit they do just for the attention.
What are you posting a thread in this section of all places for anonymous readers and the like to read for? A death in the family to me in something personal, and I don't see any point in sharing it with a bunch of strangers in such a crude fashion. Discussing it on his profile page or private message is enough, because at least then you're doing so with people who even remotely have some interest in your life.
This however, is not acceptable; he obviously feels he's important enough that the whole section needs to know about his life as opposed to whatever small circle of friends he has. I didn't care about who he was before, and I sure don't care now after the little "update". Judging from the lack of posts here, seems not too many care either.
Because people did not come here to read about your personal business.
