Eventually people do run out of ideas. If you make a movie that has something similar to an already out one, you are copying, get sued and lose a lot of money... No to mention you ruin your reputation.. People are stupid, that's just the world today, either you come up with something now or get trashed on for 'copying' someone else. Thus we get these weird movies no one would come up with say five to six years ago. Just roll with it, it's how things are in today's world. Don't like it? Skip it and wait for something that catches your eye, easy as that.
