It makes no sense for Tobi to claim he is a 'shadow of his former self' if he's Obito - the latter was never anything special to begin with, since his life was tragically ended at an early age. He was simply unachieved potential. It'd make much more sense for it to be someone like the Elder Son or Izuna Uchiha since they had power which could be deemed 'superior' to that which pre-Rinnegan Tobi possessed. I find it highly likely that someone's consciousness is merely using Obito's half Zetsu body as some sort of vessel.

Doesn't Orochimaru use something similar? He takes over the body of someone else, but it is still him.

Wow, finally, someone with sense...

Saying that Tobi was obito(Which was pretty evident), but only physically, made alot of sense.

but you're still gonna have several people being indenial, because thats their character.

Saying shyt like, "Tobi is Obito's dad", "Tobi is obito's older brother", "Tobi is Madara from the future", "Tobi is the sage of the six paths" and some more shyt.

I'm sorry, but stupidity is inevitable in NarutoBase.

Perhaps a similar method is being used. At this point, nothing is set in stone, though I find certain things hold more weight than others.

So what if we fail to see it? That's what's making the manga exciting. These red herrings or whatever are what Kishi is doing right? He's doing it for a reason, to make the reader more excited. And it's working. The way you say it you make it sound like it's bad thing, you make it sound like it's something that we shouldn't be failing to see.

It's just a way of telling a story. A writers technique of making a story exciting and if we fail to see it then that just means that it's working

Tobi = Obito
:overjoy:
