How should you react when you catch your S.O. (significant other) casually lying? Let's say the lie was sort of trivial, not something that would matter or change the situation if they told the truth.

I've always been told that calling them out on it/exposing them is overreacting, but I feel like if it's so insignificant why lie about it in the first place? Right?

Thoughts and opinions?

mmm, it depends on the location

if we're out at a party or something talking with others. and they lie for no apparent reason, i wont say anything. if i remember i will ask when nobody is around. if say we're eating dinner just the two of us and they lie to me and i know for a fact it is. ill call them on it and ask why they feel they need to lie to me, ill rarely just ignore it

but im also alone so, maybe its not a good idea :nefer:

Then she would need a good.....talking to. Perhaps, a bit more.

Perhaps, someone might need to be corrected....

There's an old saying, "is this the hill you want to die on?" In other words, pick and choose your arguments. If it is trivial, and does not impact anything of sustenance, then is it worth making a big deal over? Is it worth even bringing up at all?

Does what your suggesting involve an axe?

I guess you're right. It's just the fact that if I don't bring it up, it eats at me. Maybe I'm just that petty. Lol

Seriously though... there's a Japanese proverb that says "in an argument, the louder person wins." If it's not immediately obvious, it means that reasoning and righteousness have no place in argument. If you confront them about it, they'll likely not admit and argue with you. So unless you can give evidence/prove it, there's no point in arguing because it won't achieve anything. You'll just waste energy and be in the same position you were when you started.

maybe its more important than it might seem at first glance,

personally i'd just let them live their lie unless its something that might rub me the wrong way then I would try to figure out everything about the lie.
