^^ Well said.
They have different effects, you can't compare them as to which one is the strongest, it is all a matter of choice.
I for one prefer the Rasengan for it is a more destructive jutsu and it causes high damage wherever it hits... Unlike chidori which if it doesn't land a fatal blow you can survive it and still continue the fight.
And even though you say that the chidory has an advantage for piercing power (agree here) you must not forget that the Rasengan also causes internal damage as well, it doesn't go through his opponent but his insides are still hurt.

  • Regular Rasengan (non-elemental) > Regular Chidori (elemental manipulation: lightning)
  • 2 tailed cloak chakra Rasengan (non-elemental) < Curse Mark Chidori (elemental manipulation: lightning)
  • Fuuton Rasengan (elemental manipulation: wind) > Curse Mark Chidori > Regular Chidori
  • Fuuton Rasenshuriken > Fuuton Rasengan > Curse Mark Chidori > Chidori

Bottom line: Wind beats Lightning :naruto:

I think it depends a little bit at what point in the series you're talking about.

Base Chidori > Base Rasengen.

Chidori is a more complex technique that requires different aspects of chakra manipulation and General control then Rasengen. Being a more complex technique (relative to base rasengen), it also has greater destructive capabilities. It was said by kakkashi that Sasuke couldn't use Chidori if he didn't have the Visual accuity of his Sharingan. I point this out, not to denigrate the technique, sasuke, or anything else like that, but just to illustrate the complexity inherant in it.

The thing about Rasengen is that it's kind of just raw chakra, so in effect, comparing Base Rasengen to Chidori isn't entirely accurate.
Rasengen, in the base form that it's seen in the early part of the series, is an incomplete technique.

Later on in the series, Rasengen (Which includes wind release and tailed beast bomb) >> Chidori.

A note on the Iron Skin jutsu that Kakuzu used... That might be a lightning technique, not necessarily an earth release jutsu, or a combination of earth and lightning. I'll narutopedia it though and see if there's any supporting evidence one way or another.

Which jutsu is stronger and explain why you think so?

People, this is the Chidori vs the Rasengan. Not their varients.

They are equally powerful. Every single time they've clashed, they've blown each other back equally:

If either one was stronger, then this would not have happened. It's that simple.

The different is that the Chidori pierces it's target while the Rasengan delivers a big blow.

It's like comparing a knife (the Chidori) and a sledgehammer (the Rasengan).
They are different tools, but they can still kill you in 1 hit.
