An English man convicted of rape collapsed when police told him he may have contracted HIV from his victim.
Richard Thomas, 27, had taken ecstasy, cocaine and had been drinking heavily when he entered a woman's home in the middle of the night and raped her as she slept.
The victim, who had taken a sleeping tablet earlier, woke to find she was being sexually assaulted.
The BBC reports that Thomas knew the woman was sick but collapsed and asked to be taken to hospital when he found out she had HIV.
Thomas said he still had no recollection of the rape but said that the victim "would not lie".
"If she says I have done it, I have done it," Liverpool Crown Court heard.
Thomas has been jailed for five years and four months and will placed on the *** Offenders Register for life.
He will find out later this week if he has contracted HIV.
