Some good ones being listed in this thread! I'm not sure whether this is considered a 'mad scientist' or not... it's a doctor from the series Homunculus. He basically pressures the main character into being his subject for a trepidation experiment. For those who don't know, it's basically an old medical procedure in which a hole is drilled in the patient's head to drive off any bad spirits within them. Apparently, people who have survived this have been reported to have ESP/psychic powers and what not. Now, he knows that this must be a bunch of crap, but he just has to try it to satisfy himself. He remains a central character throughout the story and plays an almost equally powerful role as the main character himself.
His introduction was pretty creepy too, but that may just be due to the beautiful illustrations...
