If Pica know that his haki can't withstand Zoro's attacks then going against Zoro will obviously be a suicide. No one in his right mind would do something as stupid as that. He went to fight Zoro because was genuinely confidant about his haki being able to wintstand his attacks.

Zoro is capable of cutting mountains. Vergo hasn't shown anything to suggest he can tank Zoro's attacks.

Aren't the best haki feats suppose to be based on who overwhelmed the toughest haki infused object?

Like Sai denting Donchinjao's blackened drill head, known for it's toughness?
Or Law and Zoro cutting a guy in FBH, which is one of the toughest protection out there?
I think these feats are more impressive than Sabo breaking an elbow pads or a non-blackened sword.
